(7:30PM XRDN) 10/7 PTO Walk-A-Thon 10/10 School Closed- Professional Development 10/11 Dayton Picture Day Class Placement This year, your child’s class placement and teacher assignment have been communicated to you via email. The placement process is an involved and thoughtful process. When placing students, we work to ensure that each of our classroom communities reflects the makeup of our total student population. I look for your confidence in your child’s placement. Since enrollment over the summer can affect our school organization, all student placements are tentative. If you do not hear from me by September 1 st , you can assume that the placement included in this letter remains as indicated. Summer Registration Are you aware of any Dayton or Indian Fields families that have not yet registered their children for this September? Please encourage them to register now, since this assists us in our planning. The South Brunswick School District will conduct school registrations centrally for all new K-5 students throughout the district. Where: Brooks Crossing Elementary School When: Tuesdays and Thursdays 9am - 12pm and 1pm - 3pm How: By appointment only- Please call 732-297- 7800 x5148 to schedule an appointment. Families of students registering after August 25th should contact their child's school directly to register. Summer School Office Hours The Dayton School office will be open on Tuesdays from 8:30am – 12:30pm and Wednesdays from 10:00am – 2:00pm. You may reach the office by calling 732-329-1043 x3077. The office will be open from 8:30 to 3:30 from August 29 th – September 2. The office will be closed on September 5 th . School Hours Tuesday, September 6 th is the first day for students. It will be a full day. Please refer to the official school times indicated below: 7:00 am Before School Program Begins 8:05 am Students Begin Arriving 8:15 am Starting Time for Dayton School 2:40 pm Ending Time for Dayton School 6:00 pm After School Program Ends September 28- Early Dismissal Day September 29 & 30- School Closed Arrival Procedures Before School Students Parents dropping off children to our Before School Program can do so as early as, but no earlier than, 7:00 am. Please park your car in the driveway near the front door, turning the car off. Ring the bell, wait to be buzzed into the building, and escort your child to the program area. You will need to sign your child into the program. Walkers Parents walking their children to school can bring them to the main entrance starting at 8:05 AM. Car Drop Off Parents driving their children to school are to drive to the front of the school in a single file line. Starting at 8:05 AM, a staff member will greet you and see that your child walks from the car into the school. Once your child leaves the car, parents are asked to continue on so that those behind you can
drop off their children. Parents walking their child into the school are asked to park in the parking lot at the rear of the building. This is for the protection of each and every child. Bus Drop Off Buses drop off students in the back of the building. Upon students’ arrival, our staff will meet the school buses and escort students from the bus into the school. Departure Procedures After School Students Students registered for the After School Program will be escorted to the After School Program area. When parents pick up their children, they must enter the building at the main entrance and proceed to the program area to sign out their children. Walkers Students who are walkers will be escorted by a staff member to the front of the school to meet their parents/guardians. Car Pick Up Parents picking up their children from school are to drive to the front of the school and park in a single file line. A staff member will ensure that each child is properly matched to his/her parent/guardian. Bus Pick Up Staff will escort students to the bus area in the back of the building and ensure that each student boards the proper bus. Bus Transportation Parents of students scheduled to ride the bus to and from school in September will receive a bus pass just days before the start of school. If you have any questions regarding bus assignments, please call the transportation department at 732-297-7800. Sending Notes and Information to School When sending notes, permission slips, lunch money, and other important information to school, please send them in envelopes with the following information: •Child’s Name •Teacher’s Name •Label (e.g. Lunch Money, PTO Membership, etc.) For the safety of your child, it is important to adhere to a consistent dismissal routine. Should the need arise for you to make a change in your child’s dismissal transportation on a particular day, please ensure that a note is written on at least a half-sheet of paper and contain the following information: •Student’s full name •Teacher’s name •Day of week and date •Detailed instructions •Parent or guardian signature Snack and Lunch All students are expected to bring a healthy snack to school. Students will have snack time anywhere between 9:15 and 10:00 am. This should be a small healthy snack, just enough to sustain them until lunch. If your child brings a lunch from home, please tell your child what he/she may have for snack. Lunch is scheduled every day of the school year and will begin on September 6 th . Your child is welcome to bring a lunch that will be kept in the classroom until it is time to eat. Please be aware that we do not refrigerate lunches nor do we have provisions to heat up lunches. Your child is welcome to purchase a lunch at a cost of $2.00. If your child chooses to purchase only milk, it costs $.55. Our district uses the Snap Card Debit Program, and parents/guardians are expected to send money in advance to go on the child’s lunch account. Please refer to the Chartwells Menu and Lunch Information sheet that you will receive at the start of school. Lunch/Recess- 11:15-12:15
