What is an traineeship?
A traineeship is a training program
providing an opportunity to learn all
aspects of a vocation. Trainees enter a
contract (usually for 1 to 2 years) with
an employer and are paid wages whilst
receiving practical onsite training and
structured tuition with a Registered
Training Organisation (i.e. TAFE)
required for a particular trade. Host
trainers allow paid time off to attend
any formal training such as TAFE that
may be required. Since the formation
of the first TABMA group apprentice
scheme in 1987, to today’s nationally
group training organisation (GTO) and is
where apprentices are employed under
an agreement with TABMA. TABMA
A host trainer provides the work, and
the TABMA takes care of all contractual
