BOTTEGA VENETA OPENS FIRST MAISON
Bottega Veneta is pleased to announce the opening of its first Maison in the world, in the prestigious location of
Via Sant’Andrea 15 in Milan. The new store represents an addition to the historic flagship located at Via Montenapoleone 5,
thus becoming the second Bottega Veneta boutique in the heart of Milan’s high-fashion district. The two addresses are
distinct points of reference for luxury shopping, respectively characterized by their assortment and exclusive shopping
experience. The Maison showcases the entire brand product range including women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, handbags,
small leather goods, luggage, eyewear, shoes, watches, fragrance, fine jewelry and jewelry, as well as furniture and items for
the home.
Measuring a total area of 1,060 square meters on two floors within an 18th century building, the boutique’s ground floor
is dedicated to men and women’s areas with respective entrances, while the upper level features Bottega Veneta lifestyle
in addition to showcasing the Furniture and Jewelry collections. Spaciousness and intimacy are perfectly balanced, in order
to ensure an exclusive shopping experience in line with the positioning of the brand that is synonymous with discreet and
understated luxury.
The interior of the Maison was conceived and designed by Tomas Maier, Bottega Veneta Creative Director, to center upon
the idea of lightness. Lending to the overarching luminosity of the space is the presence of large windows, balconies, and a
glass-encased courtyard surrounded by vaults and columns in Montorfano stone, with a fountain at its center. Overall, the aim
was to reflect the complete identity of Bottega Veneta in the country where the brand has its roots, in a location that both
honors and represents the beauty and discretion of Milanese architecture.
Notable design features include walls covered with suede, mohair furniture upholstery with leather details, Wilton wool
carpets, and hidden light fixtures that create an original effect and the sensation of three-dimensionality. The entrance area
features Venetian terrazzo made with marble in light Asiago pink, botticino, arabesqued red and Verona white. A curved
stairway, in extra light glass, tulipwood and bronzed metal, illuminates the materials that significantly compose nearly all
tables, displays and details of the furniture within the store, beside additional fabrics such as ultrasuede and velvet.
A luminous palette permeates the space, with shades ranging from varied greys found in the men’s area to neutral beiges to
pale pinks, as featured in the women’s area.
For Mr. Maier, the opening of this store illustrates the organic progression of the brand. “The store design and the approach to
the customer render the Maison unique among the entire network of Bottega Veneta locations,” says Mr. Maier. “The Maison
represents a new approach to shopping, an evolution in the brand retail development that follows the growth of Bottega
Veneta in terms of product categories as well as offering to the clientele customized and dedicated services in anticipation of
their needs or desires. In addition to offering unique product solely available at this particular address, the Maison will enable
our clients to perceive a completely innovative and exclusive shopping experience and I look forward to welcoming them there.”
“The investment in the new Maison confirms Bottega Veneta’s precise and deliberate strategy which aims to ensure
geographical balance and appropriate visibility in all markets,” says Marco Bizzarri, President and CEO of Bottega Veneta.
“Even more so, it underscores the fact that the brand has developed to the point where we were able to take a decisive step
in Italy, our home country, and open the world’s biggest store in Milan. This does not change our global strategy of opening
smaller shops, but it is important however to have one location in the world that houses the Bottega Veneta brand in its
entirety, while absolutely maintaining the level of intimacy and the utmost quality of client service that characterize the brand.”
Discretion, quality, and craftsmanship — Bottega Veneta has created a new standard of luxury since its founding in Vicenza
in 1966. Steeped in the traditions of Italy’s master leather craftsmen and long celebrated for its extraordinary leather
goods, Bottega Veneta has recently emerged as one of the world’s premier luxury brands. The company’s famous motto,
“When your own initials are enough,” expresses a philosophy of individuality and confidence that now applies to a range of
products including women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, fine jewelry, furniture, and more.
While Bottega Veneta continues to grow, the qualities that define it are unchanging: outstanding craftsmanship, innovative
design, contemporary functionality, and the highest quality materials. Also constant is Bottega Veneta’s commitment to
its ateliers, where artisans of remarkable skill combine traditional mastery with breathtaking innovation. Indeed, there is
an unusual and inspired collaboration between artisan and designer at the heart of Bottega Veneta’s approach to luxury,
symbolized by the house’s signature intrecciato woven leather. In the summer of 2006, in recognition of the importance of
artisanal craftsmanship and the fragility of this traditional way of life, Bottega Veneta opened a school to train and support
future generations of leather artisans.
The most recent chapter in Bottega Veneta’s history began in February 2001, when the company was acquired by Kering,
formerly known as Gucci Group. Creative Director Tomas Maier came on board in June of that year and presented his
first collection, Spring-Summer 2002, to immediate critical acclaim. From the start, the house’s sensibility was refined,
sensuous, and intensely personal, designed for a customer who is sophisticated and self-assured. In the years since,
Bottega Veneta has introduced exciting additions to the collection, including fragrance, fine jewelry, a watch, furniture, and
home accessories, while continuing to offer an exclusive and coveted assortment of ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes, small
leather goods, eyewear, luggage, and gifts.
Distribution of Bottega Veneta products is global, encompassing Europe, Australia, Asia, North and South America, where
wholesale distribution in select specialty and department stores is complemented by a growing number of Bottega Venetaowned
boutiques. These boutiques, designed by Tomas Maier and meticulously constructed to Bottega Veneta’s exacting
standards, allow the customer to shop in complete luxury, privacy, and comfort. They are, like the products they showcase, a
reflection of Bottega Veneta’s exceptional heritage and superlative quality.
