triple j’s Hottest 100 Of All Time 

Various 

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the 

institution that is the Hottest 100 countdown, 

triple j lifted the shackles. Instead of only being 

able to select songs from the previous 12 months, 

as a nod to the music polls origins, triple j asked 

the Australian public to make a hair-tearing choice 

and vote for our top 100 tracks of all time. 

The poll received over half a million votes for 13,000 songs and the results? 

Radiohead and Jeff Buckley scored the most entries; four each. Michael Jackson 

was rating highly, but his death ensured a second entry. Bon Iver is the newest 

artist, with ‘Skinny Love’. Eight #1’s in previous polls re-appeared including songs 

from Kings Of Leon, Muse, and Franz Ferdinand, and eleven songs from the first 

Hottest 100 reappeared 20 years on. But ultimately it was Nirvana taking it out 

with their soundtrack to the 90’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’.

The partnership between the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) and All Music Publishing (formerly Allans Publishing) spans over a century 

and represents Australia’s most productive and progressive publishing program. The AMEB catalogue of titles provides music students and teachers 

in Australia with a cost-effective and uncomplicated way to prepare for examinations across a wide range of instruments, genres and levels. 

The relationship between AMEB and AMPD (then Allans) began in 1906 as a means to generate an Australian system of music education for Australian children. 

This was an important milestone as up until this time all music examinations were carried out by English-based examination bodies. The board had its beginnings in 

an association between the Melbourne and Adelaide Universities and until this day is the only examination body with formal links to major Australian Universities and 

Ministers for Education. 

The musical landscape has changed greatly in Australia over 100 years and the publications on offer reflect the progression and development of our musical tastes. 

Grade Books are not only available for classical musicians, but contemporary musicians are catered for with CPM (Contemporary Popular Music) and more recently 

the ‘For Leisure’ Series has been developed with wide-ranging repertoire including popular classics, jazz and blues, TV and show themes and popular songs for Piano, 

Saxophone and Singing. In 2006 Music Craft was introduced, a comprehensive syllabus and publications package that is responsive to busy instrumental teachers
