About the Coaches Ben Sullivan, Head Alpine Coach As a young ski racer, Ben attended the weekend Competition Program at Mount Snow. Later, at Deerfield Academy, he balanced Eastern Cup racing under the tutelage of former Canadian Ski Team coach Jean Francois (JF) Belanger with interscholastic racing. He trained for a post-graduate year at MSA before joining the Middlebury College Ski Team. He interned under former French Ski Team member Isabelle Fabre, became assistant head coach at Mount Snow Academy, and assumed the Head Coach position in 2005. At MSA, Ben has coached beginners through Eastern Junior 3 Olympic champions, as well as competitors at the Tropheo Topolino, the Whistler Cup, and the British National Championships in Meribel, France. Off-season Ben has directed MSA’s training camp at El Colorado, Chile. He also directs the Stone Horse Yacht Club’s sailing program on Cape Cod, teaching children aged seven through high school and directing a staff of ten college students. Andrew Norton, Alpine Coach Andrew began his ski racing career in the weekend Competition Program at Mount Snow. He attended MSA as an Eastern Cup racer. He, too, trained under former Canadian Ski Teach coach JF Belanger and former French Ski Team members Sam Bertacchi and Isabelle Fabre. Andrew was a member of the Colby-Sawyer Ski Team, where he earned a place at the USCSA Nationals in each of his collegiate years. Since becoming an Alpine Coach at MSA, Andrew, too, has helped students earn spots at the Whistler Cup, Topolino, the Junior 3 Olympics, and Eastern Cup races. He was the coach for the newly-initiated CanAm race for J4 athletes, and has directed MSA-sponsored training camps in Chile and in Colorado as well as private coaching in New Zealand and Australia. Andrew is an avid surfer, and continues to travel the world when he is not coaching. Steve Kwasniewski, Head Snowboard Coach Steve has been coaching at the Academy since snowboarding became a part of its snow sport curriculum in 1998. He has coached athletes in major snowboard competitions including X-Games, Grand Prix, U.S. Open, World Cup, and USASA Nationals. Snowboarding has taken Steve from Switzerland to Canada and across the United States. He has trained national champions, including Olympic gold medalist Kelly Clark. Steve is accredited by USSA as a coach, official, and trainer. A former competitor, his true satisfaction comes from working with young athletes to help them achieve their dreams. Will Rivera, Snowboard Coach Will has been coaching at MSA since 2003. A USASA certified coach, he is experienced in all disciplines. Will, a former competitor himself, has helped lead MSA athletes to top finishes at many prestigious competitions including the USASA Nationals, the Revolution Tour, and the U.S. Open. Off-season, he coaches at snowboard training camps at Mount Hood, Oregon, and trains snowboarders and skateboarders at Woodward Skate Camp in Pennsylvania. Every season, Will looks forward to working with athletes to help them achieve their personal best.
Richie Paradise, Head Freestyle Coach Richie took over the freestyle team in 2010. Under his leadership, the team has doubled in size, and members have reached the podium in about 90% of the events they’ve entered. Richie hails from New Hampshire and, as a young skier, trained at Attitash. No stranger to Mount Snow, Richie won the Anti-Gravity Grail Half pipe in 2002-2003 and earned second place in Big Air. In 2003-2004 he stood on top of the podium at Mount Snow’s Snow style and took second place in the Big Air contest. Over the next few years he also won the New England Free ride Championships at Sunday River, Maine, the Dead Presidents’ Rail Jam at Killington, and Mount Snow’s Anti-Gravity Grail Mega Mother Hucker event. Richie has worked for Fischer Skis since 2002. He has directed numerous camps and clinics for them and he is a Fischer International Free Ski Team member. Until moving here to take over the Academy team, Richie headed the Cranmore Mountain USSA FreeSki Travel Team Dan Maguire, Freestyle Coach I was born in Massachusetts and I moved to South Newfane, Vermont with my mom, dad and older brother when I was 6. I started skiing one year later, and I've loved it ever since. During high school I worked as a mountain bike teacher and camp counselor at Mount Snow. After high school, I lived in Mammoth Mountain, California, for a winter where I worked as a ski school instructor. Following that I lived another winter here at Mount Snow before going to school at the University of Vermont in Burlington to study film, geography and education. While in college I taught in the ski school at Stowe and was a park ranger in the terrain parks. After graduating I travelled a lot including a winter in Summit County, Colorado, where I gained much of my technical experience with ski equipment working at a repair/rental shop. This is my first year back at Mount Snow and it has been great. It's also my first year coaching at the Academy which has also been great. The kids love skiing so much here! I have been teaching and coaching kids in some capacity since I was sixteen years old and it continues to be my favorite way to make a living.
