Austin Cole
Snowboarder
Grade 10, Saratoga Springs, NY
Hi, I’m Austin Cole. I’m new to MSA this year. I am a snowboarder, and
have been since third grade when I started at West Mountain in upstate New
York.. I like MSA a lot, it’s awesome. We get to ride midweek as well as on
the weekends. It’s good because I progress a lot due to the coaches. I’m
learning a new trick, a switch front board two out. It’s a challenge for me
because of the body maneuvers. This will be my first time competing in
USASA this year. I will be riding slope style and pipe. I hope to learn a lot
and progress as a rider, so I can ride any park with good technique. My other
major interests are skateboarding and lacrosse.
Snowboarder
Grade 10, Marlboro, VT
I am a snowboarder from Marlboro, Vermont who started riding six years
ago and has been competing for four years. This is my second year at MSA
and I would like to finish in the top ten in slope style at Nationals. I think
MSA is a great place because I get more on-snow time to learn gnarly
maneuvers. I have done very well in competitions so far this year, coming in
first place at three different rail jams (two at Mount Snow and one at
Stratton), as well as placing second in both pipe and slope at the USASA
Southern Vermont Series event at Mount Snow. I’d like to learn how to ride
halfpipe better this year, as well as get straight A’s in school. I do not yet
know what I want to do in the future, but I’ll be looking for a fun and
interesting job. I’m a determined snowboarder, and will occasionally crack a joke or two. Off-season, I
like to skateboard, watch snowboarding videos, and edit videos.
Julia Melnikova
Alpine Skier
Grade 10, Moscow, Russia
I am fifteen years old. This is my first year in Mount Snow Academy. I came
from Russia after my coach, Greg Gurshman, suggested for me to study at
MSA. He was a teacher and coach in the Academy a long time ago. I was
shocked when he said that to me, but I was also happy and started to
prepare. I have been skiing for eleven years and this is my first year at FIS
level. Now I am getting ready to compete and apply my technique. I like to
work hard in skiing and also in school. During this year I hope to improve
my English and my skiing, and to compete well. Usually I have trained in
Europe – Finland, Austria and Norway – and this year is my first experience
in the USA.
