WHAT’s NEW?
(let me tell you...)
Why, this newsletter of course! NOVA is attempting to
jump-start a monthly team newsletter to inform our alumni,
family, friends, and recruits about our team. Please feel
free to submit materials you would like included. Anything
you think would be fun to put in our newsletters, please
send to the editor at klstephen@yahoo.com. Spread the
word to the lost ruggers of NOVA that the newsletter is sent
out monthly to the active and social lists (so sign up! www.
novawrfc.org) and will be posted on our website shortly. If
you would like it snail-mailed to you, please contact
the editor.
EDITOR
brought to you by your
NEW SPONSOR
The newsletter is sponsored (in other words, designed and
produced with the exception of the text, which is coming
from the editor) by Melanie Test of Meltt Design and Iz
Inc., frequently known as “sMellie.” Your new sponsor, who
revels in all things design (and especiially all things design
that involve rugby - how many tees and programs has she
done?!), is inserting this text herself, both because the editor
said she could and she needs to fill some space.
Hooray for fun, hooray for pretty, hooray for NOVA!
event writeup for
MEMBERS ONLY
(the band)
On Saturday, September 16, members of the NOVA Nation, FONS (that’s “Friendsof-NOVA”)
and more than a few unwitting stranger to NOVA Rugby descended on
“My Brother’s Place” on Capitol Hill to enjoy the musical stylings of DC’s Cheesiest
80s Tribute Band, Members Only (www.membersonly-theband.com).
After going undefeated in two important matrix matches against Maryland and
James River, NOVA arrived in their best 80s attire (LOVED the shoulder pads,
Rookie) ready to Wang Chung like only the NOVA Nation can, while raising much
needed funds to help send both NOVA squads to their respective national tournaments.
All you can drink draft beer and half priced shooters helped NOVA find the dance
floor early and remain there until well after last call. Props to Sandy “Joan Jett”
Stowe and _________ “Cleopatra” ____________ for winning hot Members Only
paraphernalia in the “I Love Rock and Roll” and “Walk Like an Egyptian” dance
contests. We want to see that Members Only thong in action at the next show,
Sandy!!!
Big thanks to Members Only for taking time out of their busy tour of the metro DC
area to help out their number one fans. The band played on into the wee hours
of the morning to chants of “one more song!” from the inebriated crowd. Special
thanks also goes to Stacy Bennett (or should I say “Staci”) from all of us that found
Members Only tattoos in places we didn’t expect on Sunday morning.
All in all, Saturday’s rockin’ 80s party was a huge success. The band kicked butt,
the crown rocked out as only NOVA can, and the team had a successful night of
fundraising. I think Members Only lead singer Jessie Jaguar put it best when he
said: “I haven’t seen that kind of 80s love since the summer of ’69.”
