All Board Members were present except Darian Carpenter and Pat Webster. The Minutes of the previous Board Meeting were accepted as published. Guests: Renee Kuehn and Mike Wichser representing JOAD and youth archery and Jack Giuliano representing Youth Rifle. Financial Report: None were available.. Several wind flags were pushed over by strong gusts, and in these tough conditions, not one “100” score was shot in any of the matches! It is our tradition for this month to shoot for a prize of a good box of chocolates, and we had a decent turnout to give it a go. It didn’t take long to figure out that it was going to be a challenge to keep the shots hitting anywhere near the ten ring, and any observer would know what was happening by all the moans, groans and “colorful” language in the air! About the time you thought you found a way to hold them in there, a shot would take off as if it had a mind of its own! In the end we had unusually low, but none the less hard earned scores, and Rick Graham’s 391-4X was good enough for him to claim the chocolate. The top three finishers in the Valentines shoot were… 1 st Rick Graham 391-4X 2 nd Ted Larson 387-2X 3 rd Mustafa Bilal 386-7X Our next shoot will be March 8 th and will be the start of our regular Benchrest season. So come out and start racking up points towards our yearly agg trophy. (won last year by Mustafa Bilal) See you there! March 2008 the Sportsman Newsletter Page 3 The Pistol sub-committee is just wrapping up our annual .22 bullseye league and postal matches. You can see the results on our web site under “pistol”, . The major story is that Gordon Buttke came out as the Kenmore’s top gun for this league. We won’t know where our top team places in the postal league for a few more weeks, but 2nd through 5th place is very tight right now. We start shooting our annual indoor Standard Pistol league in March. Rules include max 5 1/2” barrel, open sights, and a min 1,000 gram trigger pull. We shoot on Thursday evenings, starting at 7PM. Cost of our leagues are $25. Some require membership in USAS and/or NRA, depending on the sanctioning body. As soon as Standard Pistol finishes, we will set up the Air Pistol range in the clubhouse and have a couple of months of fun with that event. Come on out an take a look. Pistol Marksmanship and Competition Seminar The 1st Saturday of each month we have a pistol training session for Bullseye and International Standard Pistol. Learn what competition is all about and get a lot of practice on timed and rapid fire. Need to bring, at a minimum: A. .22LR semi-automatic standard pistol (5” barrel). B. 300-400 rounds of .22 Standard Velocity LR C. $10 fee Starts at 9:00AM on Range #3 Shotgun Newsletter March 2008 Wow, it’s already March, spring should arrive shortly. With the better weather the shotgun range should become busier. Please remember to help keep an eye on the shooters, especially the new shooters for safety issues. As members it’s our responsibility to help keep the range safe. WCW will host a Continental League Shoot, March 16 th . The shotgun range will be closed to all except for the participants in the shoot. If you are interested in Continental Shooting come out and watch the competition. You may pick up some pointers. We can use some help from our members to relieve the trappers during the shoot. Often there are vacancies in some of the squads. If this occurs, you may be able to shoot with a squad as a fill in allowing you a chance to see what the competition is all about from ground zero as a participant. Come out and watch, help or possibly shoot. Several of the Kenmore shooters are very accomplished at this discipline. Greg Miner, Bruce Haragin, Scott Ray, Carl Brattain and Larry Mallory, Bob Lambert, just to name a few. The Kenmore Continental Squad is currently in 5 th place out of 14 squads. Good shooting guys and good luck in the upcoming events. UP COMING EVENTS March 16 th , Continental League Shoot May 10 th PITA Competition Shoot June 14 th Ladies Only Shotgun Clinic Winter League is over, sorry to say there were not many participants this year, however thanks to Mr. Wayne Clapper for keeping track of the results and posting them. The final standings are on the cork board at the south end of the shotgun shack. With better weather around the corner we are looking forward to more participants at the Shotgun Committee Meetings which meet the 2 nd Monday of each month at the shotgun shack at 7:30 pm. We are starting to hold some fun shooting events on the meeting nights. The events being considered are Annie Oakley, 3 guns up, sliders, backline continental come to the meetings and have some fun and give us your input. Meeting at 7:30pm, Shooting as soon as meeting is over (meeting usually lasts ½ hr). It’s close to election time, remember to vote and attend the Annual Meeting April 9 th at the WCW Club House. Gary Webster Hunter Education The Hunter Education committee has been busy reviewing our program prior to setting any dates for classes. We need to be sure that we are in compliance with all state requirements regarding subjects taught and length of time for each subject. This past month John Blatchford has been working on the comparisons and with the help of Gary Webster at our meeting on the 20th, we are getting closer to being ready to go. The dilemma of finding dates, times, and locations for our classes, that will accommodate volunteer instructors and students, is the continuing challenge. Rather than the usual three evening classes and a Saturday agenda, the idea of running a two day class over a weekend has been suggested and we are looking at that possibility. We are also looking at having two or three paradigm classes as they require only one Friday night and a Saturday, and will need fewer instructors. This is primarily a home study course with the written test and some safety instruction on Friday night, and the field course on Saturday. I thank those who have stepped up to become instructors and are now going through the PST (pre service training) program to become State Certified. This will help our usual instructors who have donated so much of their time the past few years. If you are at all interested in becoming a Hunter Education instructor, please let me know.This program is very important as all of those born after January 1, 1972 and want to hunt in Washington, must take this hunter education course to receive their license.
