Page 4 the Sportsman Newsletter March 2008 Archery Committee Here we are early in 2008 and already our JOAD program has seen several young archers achieve awards in recent archery tournaments along with individual accomplishments of advancing through the different levels of the JOAD program. During a recent State Multicolor Championship Tournament held at Silver Arrow Bowmen in Mt Vernon our JOAD archers achieved high awards. All our young archers compete in the Freestyle Limited Recurve Division. In the Young Adult Male Division Ben Roop was 1 ST Place, Young Adult Female Division Lauren Hughes 1 ST Place, Youth Male Division Jonathan Kuehn 1 ST Place, Youth Female Division Shannon Ostling 1 ST Place, Elizabeth Caughell 2 ND Place, Maianna DeMatteis 3 RD Place, and Jessica Schoenfeld 4 TH Place. Female Cub Kimmie Roop 1 ST Place, and last but not least Pee Wee Female Alexa Claps 1 ST Place. Enclosed is a picture of Coach Mike Wickser giving last minute instructions to Elizabeth Caughell, Jessica Schoenfeld, Maianna DeMatteis and Jonathan Kuehn. Each Youth archer advances at his or her own pace through the different JOAD levels. To progress through the achievement program the archer must pass each level and must shoot the required score under tournament like conditions. The qualifying scores are shot in rounds of 30 consecutive arrows for indoor rounds consisting of 3 arrows at 18 meters with the exception of the Green Star level which shoots at 9 meters. Congratulations to all the youth archers. Keep your eye on them as they compete at the Nationals this Year in Salt Lake City Utah. Just a reminder to those of you who are not aware there is still a chance to shoot your bow indoors on Sunday and Monday Nights from 7 to 9PM members cost $1.00 non members $ 2.00 in the Clubhouse See you there.
March 2008 the Sportsman Newsletter Page 5 The NRA and the WCW Our club is an NRA recruiter, and we get a commission for all new members we sign up and for all renewals processed with our recruiter ID number. We receive $10 for every new member and $5 for every renewal. The club has a significant number of NRA members and it would be a real benefit to the club for all those members to renew using the form below, or by using our web site’s direct link to the NRA renewals (on our home page). Besides, by renewing through the club, you save $10. Let’s see, you save $10 and the club gets another $5....what a good deal. Then there are a great many WCW members who are not yet NRA members. The club would receive $10 of the $25 special dues for every member who would join through the club. You would be doing your part on a national level to protect your gun and hunting rights. You save $10 and the club gets another $10 ... a really good deal! Sign up your wife or husband or kids with a Liberty membership for $10 (no magazine) and the club gets a $5 commission. Don’t want the magazine, sign up on a Liberty membership for yourself. The club has been earning an extra $1,000 a year just from those who have been taking advantage of this process. We could make a great deal more. The benefits which come with an NRA membership are significant. You get $1,000 unscheduled firearm theft insurance and $10,000 accidental life insurance. And you would be adding to the strength of the organization. Let’s all pull together and give them the support they need. As an aside, the NRA provides the lesson plans and manuals for all our safety classes, and grants for some of our projects. We have gotten grants to purchase pistol and rifles for our classes, grants for our archery FITA program and grants for the ladies only shotgun shoot, just to mention a few.
