Posh Pugs Hubie and Bertie (not sure which one is<br />
which) drink to make people more interesting. Above,<br />
at the ready to get their tongues into a well-deserved<br />
Bombay Martini in the Back Bar at <strong>Boisdale</strong> of<br />
Belgravia following an exhaustingly long walk around<br />
Eaton Square. The event hosted by Sam Carter of<br />
Bombay Spirits Company on 29 January was vastly<br />
oversubscribed and voted by common consensus one of<br />
the most inspiring tastings in recent months.<br />
Balcones from Waco, Texas<br />
— Craft Whiskies Launch in<br />
the UK<br />
So many hats and only two heads! BJ&CC Member<br />
Jasmine Wanstall with Chip Tate, owner and distiller<br />
at Balcones, Waco, Texas during an event at <strong>Boisdale</strong><br />
of Belgravia on March 26. It’s safe to say we’ve never<br />
had a tasting quite like it! The Lone Star State host<br />
captivated the audience with numerous vivid tales<br />
ranging from setting distilleries on fire and quirks of<br />
English language to building his own stills and drawing<br />
inspiration from Tex Mex and tortilla flavours to<br />
create artisan whiskeys. More to the point, the whiskey<br />
was delicious! Balcones produces innovative, excellent<br />
American craft spirits and is definitely a distillery<br />
to watch.<br />

Woogie, Stride & Blues<br />
A Steinway Grand Piano has been set aside as a prize<br />
for the reader who can guess from this photo which<br />
hand is playing a four-beat pulse with a single bass<br />
note. Four world’s leading boogie-woogie and stride<br />

Mr. Darcy soon drew the attention of the room by his<br />
fine, tall person, handsome features, noble mien, and<br />
the report which was in general circulation within<br />
five minutes after his entrance, of his having nine<br />
[hundred] thousand a year. Within six minutes after<br />
his entrance, all guests on the Belgravia terrace felt<br />
terribly let down upon learning that the unexpected<br />
guest at the Hunters & Frankau Cuban Cigar tasting<br />
hosted by unforgettable Jimmy McGhee on March 4<br />
was merely a member of The Sublime Society of Beef<br />
Steaks enjoying a pint of lager and in search of a<br />
good smoke.<br />

Dinner<br />
The Bollinger Champagne Dinner at <strong>Boisdale</strong> of<br />
Belgravia on April 9 was so oversubscribed and such<br />
a massive hit with our members that lovely waitress<br />
Debbie Byrne (white shirt) had to result to Cirque du<br />
Soleil acrobatics to deliver dishes to our guests. We heard<br />
nothing but fantastic feedback following the event, so<br />
many thanks to our great host Howard Corrigan and<br />
superb head chef Colin Wint who conjured up 5 extra<br />
lobsters just several hours before the event.<br />
