POPS
CONCERT
DELIVERS!
Parents, friends, and classm ates were treated
to a wonderful night of m usic as the CHS Music
Departm ent presented the annual Pop, Popcorn,
and Pops Concert in the Golden Eagle Arena on
Tuesday, May 6th.
The Orchestras, Bands, Show Choirs, Vocal
Jazz, Choirs, and Jazz Bands all perform ed pop
m usic selections. Mr. Christian Pirlet served as
em cee for the evening. The bands were directed
by Mr. Jerry Letcher and Mr. Jerem y Schutter.
The orchestra is under the direction of Mrs. Kira
Makeever. Mrs. Jenna Hansen directed the
freshm an chorus and joined Mrs. Kelly in
directing the Concert Choir. Mrs. Kelly directed
A Cappella Choir was joined by Mr. Ron Parker in
directing Vocal Jazz. The show choirs were under
the direction of Mrs. Susan Appl and Melledy
Rostad.

Kelly retires after 28 years
of teaching in Aberdeen
public schools!
After 40 years in education, Mary Beth
Kelly will retire from teaching at the
end of the current school year. She
has touched the lives of thousands of
m usic students who were lucky
enough to be called her students. She
will definitely be m issed at CHS. The
faculty, staff , and students wish her
the very best in her retirem ent!

With the adoption of the Com m on Core Standard,
the Aberdeen Public School District joined the
Sm arter Balanced Assessm ent Consortium for
standardized testing in place of the Dakota Step
testing that has been done in the past. Most
students liked the new interactive testing
procedures better. Som e pointed out that it was
m ore than a paper and pencil test. Using the
com puters, students were required to actively
m anipulate item s on the test.

Students at CHS can take classes for dual credit at any of the South Dakota
Universities or Tech Schools by enrolling a new dual credit program . See the
Counselors for details and to register for classes.
FIRSTALL-COLOR
YEARBOOK
On May 15th, students
who purchased a yearbook
were treated to the first ever
all-color yearbook at CHS.
The 200 page book was
produced by Journalism
classes. A lim ited num ber of
yearbooks are available in the
office for $55 each.

inducted into the Keystone
National Honor Society on
Thursday, May 15th. See

Mr. Letcher and Mr. Shutter will
take a group of 52 band students
to Florida, May 21-27 to perform
a concert in the "Happiest Place
on Earth."

students fill the Thom as F. Kelly Theatre
with great acting, singing and dancing May
1 - 3, 2014.
Senior Austin Vetter played the lead role
of J. Pierrepont Finch, a window washer
who finds an advice book on how to
succeed in business. Following the
instructions in the book, he rises from the
m ailroom to the executive offices in quick
fashion, putting everyone else at World
Wide Wicket on edge.

The Secretary Ensem ble consisted of: Julia
Friedrichsen, Katrina Marnette, Elisabeth Pohle,
Noem i Picazo, Mary Merxbauer, Shanae Doerr,
Kylee Carlson, Madison Ivy, Katie Magera,
Annabelle Eastm an, Alicia Bearheels, Kristina
Kuzm ina, Em ily Magera, Liz Horm an, Natalie
Lobaz, Brianna Hum phries, Morgan
Morrissey, and Shelby Laham m er.

Along the way, Finch falls in love with a
young and beautiful secretary nam ed
Rosem ary Pilkington played by Elizabeth
Wensm ann. Things don't go quite as
expected for Finch as the boss's nephew,
Bud Frum p, played by Nick Brandt thinks
he should be prom oted before Finch. He
tricks Finch into a disastrous advertising
plan. But in the end, Finch is able to turn
things around.
Rounding out the cast were: Brodigan Morton
as J.B. Biggley, Moriah Turick as Hedy LaRue,
Kyle Anderson as Wally Wom per, Thom as
Krueger as Mr. Bratt, Gabbie Brandt as Sm itty,
Kristen Prosper as Miss Jones, Natalie Bollinger
as Miss Krum holtz, Micah Reierson as Mr.
Gatch, Max Langbehn as Mr. Jenkins, Jordan
