DELIVERS!<br />
Parents, friends, and classm ates were treated<br />
to a wonderful night of m usic as the CHS Music<br />
Departm ent presented the annual Pop, Popcorn,<br />
and Pops Concert in the Golden Eagle Arena on<br />
Tuesday, May 6th.<br />
The Orchestras, Bands, Show Choirs, Vocal<br />
Jazz, Choirs, and Jazz Bands all perform ed pop<br />
m usic selections. Mr. Christian Pirlet served as<br />
em cee for the evening. The bands were directed<br />
by Mr. Jerry Letcher and Mr. Jerem y Schutter.<br />
The orchestra is under the direction of Mrs. Kira<br />
Makeever. Mrs. Jenna Hansen directed the<br />
freshm an chorus and joined Mrs. Kelly in<br />
directing the Concert Choir. Mrs. Kelly directed<br />
A Cappella Choir was joined by Mr. Ron Parker in<br />
directing Vocal Jazz. The show choirs were under<br />
the direction of Mrs. Susan Appl and Melledy<br />
Rostad.<br />

public schools!<br />
After 40 years in education, Mary Beth<br />
Kelly will retire from teaching at the<br />
end of the current school year. She<br />
has touched the lives of thousands of<br />
m usic students who were lucky<br />
enough to be called her students. She<br />
will definitely be m issed at CHS. The<br />
faculty, staff , and students wish her<br />
the very best in her retirem ent!

With the adoption of the Com m on Core Standard,<br />
the Aberdeen Public School District joined the<br />
Sm arter Balanced Assessm ent Consortium for<br />
standardized testing in place of the Dakota Step<br />
testing that has been done in the past. Most<br />
students liked the new interactive testing<br />
procedures better. Som e pointed out that it was<br />
m ore than a paper and pencil test. Using the<br />
com puters, students were required to actively<br />
m anipulate item s on the test.<br />

Students at CHS can take classes for dual credit at any of the South Dakota<br />
Universities or Tech Schools by enrolling a new dual credit program . See the<br />

On May 15th, students<br />
who purchased a yearbook<br />
were treated to the first ever<br />
all-color yearbook at CHS.<br />
The 200 page book was<br />
produced by Journalism<br />
classes. A lim ited num ber of<br />
yearbooks are available in the<br />
office for $55 each.<br />

take a group of 52 band students<br />
to Florida, May 21-27 to perform<br />
a concert in the "Happiest Place<br />
on Earth."

with great acting, singing and dancing May<br />
1 - 3, 2014.<br />
Senior Austin Vetter played the lead role<br />
of J. Pierrepont Finch, a window washer<br />
who finds an advice book on how to<br />
succeed in business. Following the<br />
instructions in the book, he rises from the<br />
m ailroom to the executive offices in quick<br />
fashion, putting everyone else at World<br />
Wide Wicket on edge.<br />

Along the way, Finch falls in love with a<br />
young and beautiful secretary nam ed<br />
Rosem ary Pilkington played by Elizabeth<br />
Wensm ann. Things don't go quite as<br />
expected for Finch as the boss's nephew,<br />
Bud Frum p, played by Nick Brandt thinks<br />
he should be prom oted before Finch. He<br />
tricks Finch into a disastrous advertising<br />
plan. But in the end, Finch is able to turn<br />
things around.<br />
