The surest, if not the most unerring, test of the bona fide character of the circulation of the SIfflEWSBURY
LARGEST NEWSPAPER in the County, its pages containing from twel.e to twenty columns of news more than an.
CHLORODYNE is a liquid, taken in drops.
It invariably relieves pain of
whatever kind; creates a calm, refreshing sleep; allays irritation of the
nnvous system when all' other renwdies fail; leaving no bad effects like opium
or laudanum; and can be taken when no other medicine can be tolerated.
Its value in saving life in infancy is not easily estimated.,-a few drops will
subdue the irritation of Teething, prevent and arrest Convulsions, cure
Whooping Cough, Spasms, and Flatus at once.
Among invalids, it allays the pain of Neuralgia, Rheumatism,
Gout, &c. It soothes the weary achings of .. Consumption, relieves
the soreness of the Chest, Cough, and Expectoration, and cures all
Chest Affections; such as Asthma, Bronchitis, Palpitation,
&c. It checks Diarrhcea, Alvine Discharges, or Spasms,
and Colics of the Intestines, &c.
The extensive demand for this remedy, known as Dr. J.COLLIS
BnowNE's CHLORODYNE, by the Medical Profession, Hospitals, Dispensaries
Civil, Military, and Naval-and Families, especially guarantees that this
statement of its extreme importance and value is a bona fide one, and worthy
of the attention of all.
CAUTION.-Always ask for "Dr. J. Collis Browne's Chlol"odyne," and bewar.e .---'
of spurious compounds or imitations. Dr. Browne placed the Recipe for ~.,
making "Chlorodyne" in the hands ,of Mr. Davenport ONLY; consequently
there can -be no other Manufacturer. The genuine bears the
words, "Dr. J. Collis Browne's Chlorodyne," on the Government Stamp
of each bottle.
The following is an extract frOln {ne decision of the Vice-Chancellor in the late (JJtlorodyne
Chancery suit-BROWNE & DAVENPORT v. Fm:E)IAN;-Vice-Chancellor Sir W. P. Wood stated
:awt Dr. J. OOllis.Browne was undoubtedly the Inventor of Chlorodyne, that th.e statements of
the defendant F"eeman were del£berqtely untrue, andh.e regretted to Bay that they had been
sworn to. Eminent Hospital Physicians of London stated that Dr. J. Collis Browne was the
discoverer of Chlorodyne; that thelJ prescribe it largely, and mean 1/0 other than Dr. Browne'8.
TESTIMONIALS~
EarlRu~sell has ~ciouslyfavoured J. T. Davenport with the following:-"Extract of a despatch from
:Mr. Webb, liB.M. Consul at 1\Ianilla, dated Sept. 17, 1864.
. .. , The remedy most efficacioUs in its effects (in Epidemic Cholera) has been found to be Cm.ORODYXE,
and with a small quantity given to me by Dr. Burke I have sa:ved se,-erallives.'''
,. ,. Earl Russell communicated to the College of Physicians that he had received a despatch from
Her 1\fajesty's Consul at 1\Ianilla to the effect that Cholera has been raging fearfully, and that the O::\LY
remedy of any service was CHLORODYXE.-See Lancet, Dec. 31, 1864.
Extracts/rom the GID.'"ERAL BOARD OF HEALTH, LO~"D01\, as to its efficacy in Cholera.
1st Sta"e or Premonitory.-In this stage the remedy acts as a charm, one dose generally sufficient.
2nd S~e, or that of Vomiting and Purging.-In thts stage the remedy possesses great power, more
than any other we are acquainted with, two or three doses being sufficient.
3rd Sta"'e, or Collapse. -In aU cases restoring the Pulse. So strongly are we convinced of the immense
value of this/-AM
Sm,-After prescribing Dr. J. Collis Browne's Chlorodyne for the last three years, in severe cases of ' Neuralgia and-Tic-Douloureux, I feel that I am in a position to testify to its valuable effects. Really, in \ 1
some eases it acted as a charm, when all other means had failed. Without being asked for this report, I \. I
must come forward and state my candid opinion that it is a most valuable medicine, and I have recom- . l '1'
mended several chemists in this neighbourhood not to be without it for prescriptions.
')
r;''' II
From JSO. E. GOULSTO!\'"E, :!ILD., late Pri-n-c-ip-a-l Surgeon to the Steam Ship Great Eastern.
I can confidently state that Chlorodyne is an admira';le Sc>dati,e and Anti-spasmodic, having used it in
Nem-algi::, Hystel'ia,. 4sthma, and Consu~ption, with .emarkably fa,ourable results. It relieved a. fit of .•.... ".',~
Asthma m four mmutes, where the patlent had suffered eleven ,ears iu a. most distressing manner, no
previous remedy having had so immediate and ben_e_fi_ci_a_l~ effect. - i' ';1
From DR. B. J. BOULTON & CO., Horncastle.
We ha,e made pretty extensive use of Chlorodyne in our practice latc!y, and look upon it as an . ('1'1
excellent direct Sedative and Anti-spasmodic. It seems to allay p~tin and irritation in whatever organ, and j" ;'
from. whate,er cause. It ~nduces a feeliug of comfort and quietude not obtainable by any other remedy, {\.'. :,.'
and lt seems to pos, sess thlS great advantage over all other Sedatives, that it leaves no unpleasant aftereffects.
