JANAF provides secure Oil transport by pipeline Video surveillance guarantees protection of oils terminals and tank farms The largest oil pipeline in Croatia, called the JANAF pipeline or the Adria pipeline, is being secured with networked IP video solutions from Bosch Security Systems. These solutions protect several crude oil handling terminals, including storage tank farms for crude oil and oil products with capacities of up to 1,000,000 m3 and the accompanying pumping and metering stations, which are connected via the 622 km long pipeline. The largest terminal, Omisalj, located on the island of Krk, also features a seaport which is perfectly sheltered from the outbursts of strong wind and wave impact. The port and terminal serve as the entry point for overseas oil which is then transported to local and foreign refineries in Eastern and Central Europe through the pipeline. ln a move to secure their assets across all sites, the JANAF company decidedto implement a comprehensive video surveillance solution years ago. ln a time when analog CCTV clearly dominated the market, they implemented a networked solution with 350 Bosch IP cameras and Bosch VIDOS management software in two operating centers in Omisalj and the terminal of Sisak. Having turned to IP as an early adopter proved to be a big advantage, as standard networking technologies allowed to dramatically reduce the complexity and the operational expenses of the entire solution. Further, it facilitated integration of the video solution into existing third party security systems like access control, fire and intrusion detection. Another benefit of the digital solution is the possibility to leverage the intelligent video analysis within the cameras. This allows JANAF to only alert operators in case of prefined events which are automatically discovered by the cameras. By transferring video only in these cases, JANAF can take a Iot of burden off both the operators and the network itself. The video solution was extended to additional terminals over time and today comprises a total of 550 cameras across all terminals. Again, IP proved to be very beneficial, as it allowed the solution to scale very easily. ln 2013, the Omisalj operating center was migrated to the latest management technology with the Bosch Video Management System (BVMS). Plans are to migrate the Sisak surveillance center to BVMS as well, turning the entire system into a complete networked BVMS enterprise Solution. These analytic tools detect any potential threats caught on camera and send an alarm to notify system operators of abnormal activity, enabling a timely and educated incident response. • Edge Storage: The Sarix Enhanced Range now leverages edge storage to store video, audio, and metadata to an SD card directly in the camera for uninterrupted monitoring if the connection to the VMS is lost. This enhanced functionality enables any ONVIF G compliant VMS to retrieve missing video when network connection is restored for reliable security supervision. • Performance IQ: SureVision 2.0 technology delivers advanced low-light capability, true wide dynamic range (WDR), and anti-bloom technology for industry-leading image quality. • Mission Critical Applications: These rugged fixed IP cameras were designed with superior reliability and fault tolerance for mission-critical applications to ensure users always get the video needed. Operating temperatures for environmental models can range from up to -40° to +50°C (- 40° to 122°F) for environments covering the desert to the arctic. Dome models include options that are IP66 rated for dust and water protection, plenum rated for in-ceiling applications, and impact rated for up to 50J for vandal protection.
