baptisms in o<strong>the</strong>r families and that one of <strong>the</strong> families has<br />

<strong>the</strong> same Y DNA as <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>Remus</strong> families. These<br />

families moved on <strong>to</strong> Kreis Berent in West Prussia, Kreis<br />

S<strong>to</strong>lp in Pommern and eventually <strong>to</strong> North America. Click<br />

The 1772 Census of West Prussia<br />

Friedrich <strong>the</strong> Great of Prussia acquired <strong>the</strong> area <strong>to</strong> be know<br />

as West Prussia as part of <strong>the</strong> First Partition of Poland in<br />

1772. Immediately he sent out agents <strong>to</strong> find out about <strong>the</strong><br />

residents and <strong>the</strong>ir assets. His purpose was <strong>to</strong> tax <strong>the</strong>m. As<br />

it was for taxation purposes, only <strong>the</strong> head of <strong>the</strong><br />

household's name was recorded. This section <strong>the</strong>refore lists<br />

all <strong>Remus</strong> families in West Prussia in 1772 as well as what<br />
