The demand for a multilingual education in Munich is steadily
growing. With its numerous international companies, over
100 consular missions and European institutions, Munich is
an international hub. Over 100,000 people currently belong
to the international community in Munich, something we
are proud of.
With this in mind, it makes me all the more delighted to
know that the BIS e.V. will soon be opening a new educational
institution, bringing their high quality international education
from the suburbs of Munich to the city. Having access to
top quality education is an important factor not only for
our community, but also for our city. I would like to therefore
warmly welcome BIS to Munich. I wish you all much
success with learning and teaching on Leopoldstraße.

With the upcoming opening of our
new City Campus in the heart of
Munich, the Bavarian International
School e.V. will be entering into an
exciting new phase. I am delighted with
the renovation progress to date, as well
as the steady increase in enrolment that
BIS has experienced since our founding
in 1990. We are extremely proud
of our dynamic, multicultural learning
environment and are privileged to have
so many ambitious and enthusiastic
students and parents in our community.
I would like to take this opportunity to
thank all those involved in supporting
our city campus project, who have
worked long and hard to help us realize
our vision. Let’s take this time together
to celebrate the completion of a major
construction phase of our new primary
city campus!

Mit der Eröffnung des BIS-Neubaus in
der Münchner City tritt die Bavarian
International School eine neue Ära. Ich
freue mich über den erfolgreichen Ausbau
der neuen Grundschule und den
stetigen Wachstum, den unsere internationale
Schule seit ihrer Gründung 1990
erlebt hat. Wir sind heute stolz darauf,
dass sich unsere Idee von interkulturellem
Lernen erfolgreich durchsetzt und freuen
uns, dass wir so viele begeisterte und
ambitionierte Schüler und Eltern an
unserer Seite haben.
Danken möchte ich an dieser Stelle allen,
die unser Projekt von einem zweiten
Campus in der Münchner Innenstadt so
lange tatkräftig mit vorangetrieben und
unterstützt haben. Lassen Sie uns gemeinsam
die Fertigstellung eines wesentlichen
Bauabschnitts des neuen Schulcampus

Celebration in Maximilianeum
The “BIS comes to Munich” event to promote the August 2015
opening of the new BIS City Campus on Leopoldstraße in
Schwabing was a resounding success! The event took place on
October 8th, 2014 in the impressive Maximilianeum in
Munich. Our 300+ guests included Human Resource contacts
from BIS client firms, Munich consulates, relocation agencies
and International Kindergartens in the Munich area. Also in
attendance were BIS parents, staff, and families interested in
the city campus. We were privileged to have 3 inspiring guest
speakers, who emphasized the value of an international IB
education and the distinct advantages of having an IB school
in the centre of Munich. Our guest speakers were Bill Moeller,
U.S. Consul General Munich, Johannes Elsner, Managing
Partner at McKinsey & Co. Munich, and Teodor Milev,
Central & Eastern Europe Partners in Learning Lead at
Microsoft and BIS parent.
Guests were treated to an impressiv drumming performance
by a class of BIS grade 4 students and also enjoyed the sounds
of the Tim Collins Trio. Thank you to all of our guests who
helped make the evening such a success!
Feierlicher Auftakt im Maximilianeum
„BIS comes to Munich“ – unter diesem Motto stand die letztjährige
BIS-Informationsveranstaltung. Feierlich wurde der neue
BIS Primary City Campus am 8. Oktober 2014 in den Festsälen
des Bayerischen Landtags präsentiert. Über 300 Gäste aus Wirtschaft,
Politik und Verbänden sowie internationalen Familien
folgten der Einladung von BIS-Schul-direktorin Dr. Chrissie
Sorenson. Der amerikanische Generalkonsul Bill Möller sowie
Johannes Elsner, Managing Partner bei McKinsey & Co.,
betonten in ihrer Rede die Rolle der BIS als eine Bereicherung für
die internationale Bildungslandschaft in Bayern.
Der Festabend war darüber hinaus eine gelungene Austauschund
Net-working-Plattform für die gesamte internationale
Community in München. Wir danken allen Gästen und Teilnehmern
für diesen gelungenen Abend!

Vom pittoresken Haimhausen ...
The Bavarian International School e.V. is
an IB World School, authorized to teach
the Primary Years Programme (PYP),
the Middle Years Programme (MYP)
and the International Baccalaureate (IB)
Diploma Programme. We offer children
from Pre-Reception (4 years of age)
through Grade 12 a full day, international
education in English and
currently have an enrolment of 1,030
students from 48 different nations.
At BIS, we focus not only on the academic
development of a student, but also on
the creative, social, physical, ethical
and emotional development. We strive
to inspire and challenge our students
to become life-long learners by taking
risks, reflecting on their experiences and
preparing for their futures. Our students
learn in a cooperative, caring environment
which promotes the development
of each child’s individual potential and
our small class sizes ensure that each child
receives individualized attention. One of
our mandates as a school is to promote
international-mindedness throughout
our curriculum by exploring our diversity
of culture, language and experience
while gaining insights from the unique
perspective of our German host culture.
Our campus is located within the picturesque
grounds of the historic mansion
known as Schloss Haimhausen. In 1998
the Schloss was renovated and adapted
into classrooms however, with a steady
increase in our enrolment we began to
expand our space beyond the Schloss.
The BIS campus now also includes a
modern cafeteria and auditorium, as
well as secondary school library, science
labs and music rooms. Our Primary
School building, with its open and light
filled atrium and classrooms, includes a
library, music rooms and an IT lab. The
most recent addition to our campus is
a new, state-of-the-art sports hall, with
three indoor basketball courts, a large
viewing gallery and additional classroom
space. Adjacent to our new sports
hall is also a large track and field arena
for sporting events.
The sprawling green lawns and mature
trees of the BIS campus offer students a
relaxing environment in which to enjoy
their outdoor breaks throughout the
school day. Children can challenge
themselves on climbing structures and
equipment, enjoy a game of football or
join their classmates on our hardcourt
for a fun game of basketball.
Die Bavarian International School unterrichtet
heute 1030 Schüler aus 48 Nationen.
Die BIS ermöglicht eine ganztägige Schulausbildung
in Englisch, basierend auf
dem weltweit renommierten Lehrplan
des IB. Die Philosophie der BIS Lernkultur
ist es, die persönliche Entwicklung der
Kinder nachhaltig zu unterstützen. Die
Kinder sollen angeregt werden, die Welt
ein Leben lang neugierig zu erforschen
und kritisch zu hinterfragen. Das BIS-
Lernprogramm sowie die familiäre Lernatmosphäre
erleichtern den Kindern das
Erlernen von Sprachen und das Verstehen
fremder Kulturen.

der Schüler wurde das Schloss sukzessive
um sechs Zusatzgebäude erweitert:
zwei Klassengebäude für die Primary
und Secondary Schulen, eine Cafeteria,
ein Auditorium, eine Sporthalle und ein
Bibliothekpavillon. Das großzügige Außenund
Parkgelände verfügen über einen
Spielplatz, eine Leichtathletiklaufbahn
und ein Sportfeld. Die Schule auf dem
Schloss-Campus ist mit modernster
Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologie
ausgestattet und beinhaltet
ein wissenschaftliches Labor und mehrere
Musikräume. Ziel der BIS ist es, die Schüler
im Alter von 4 bis 18 Jahren nicht nur
akademisch, sondern auch persönlich in
ihrer individuellen Entwicklung zu fördern.
In August 2015 we will officially open
the doors of our new Primary School
City Campus in the centrally located
Schwabing neighbourhood of Munich.
The modern, purpose-built facility on
Leopoldstraße 208 will offer students and
staff over 9.000 square meters of bright,
open space, spread out over 4 stories.
This dynamic and nurturing learning
environment will have classroom space
to accommodate up to 500 students
and will also feature a cafeteria, library,
music room and two storeys, generous
sized sports hall. The outdoor school
grounds will encompass a secure playground
area under the cover of mature
trees, as well as a hardcourt for basketball
and football.
The BIS primary city campus will follow
the world-renowned IB Primary Years
Programme. This well rounded curriculum
includes German instruction five
times per week in grades 1-5, as well as
sports, music and drama instruction
during the school day. Students who
complete grade 5 at our city campus will
have preferred admission to continue
their secondary education at our Haimhausen
Campus.
Im August 2015 wird der zusätzliche
Primary City Campus offiziell seine Türen
öffnen. Der moderne Schulkomplex, der in
der Schwabinger Leopoldstraße 208 liegt,
verfügt über 9000 Quadratmeter Fläche
auf über 4 Etagen. Somit ist der Wunsch
vieler Eltern nach einem Campus im
Herzen von München erfüllt. Die zukünftige
BIS-Vor- und Grundschule bietet
Kapazitäten für 500 Kinder in kleinen
Klassen und mit einem überdurchschnittlichen
Betreuungsschlüssel. Der Neubau
verfügt über eine Cafeteria, eine Bibliothek,
einen Musikraum und eine Sporthalle.
Die Schüler im Alter von 4 bis 11 Jahren
werden ebenfalls im Außenbereich mit
Spiel-, Basketball- und Fußballplätzen
verwöhnt.
Ziel der BIS ist es weiterhin, Kindern vielfältige
Wahlfächer zu ermöglichen: fünf
Mal pro Woche Deutschunterricht, Sport-,
Musik- und Theaterunterricht. Am Ende
der Grundschulzeit wird selbstverständlich
eine bevorzugte Aufnahme zur weiterführenden
Schulausbildung bis hin zum
Baccalaureat im BIS Schloss Haimhausen
Campus gewährleistet.
