5.3 Legal Requirements
5.3.1 Federal Referral

Grange is negotiating an offsets package for the
minesite. The proposed offset site is located to the
north of Mettler Road. This offset site contains similar
vegetation types to those being cleared, and provides
suitable habitat for conservation significant species in
the area (including Carnaby’s Cockatoo).
The offsets package takes into account all project
aspects, including the desalination pipeline and plant.
Referral to the DSEWPaC is required if projects result in a significant impact to Matters of National
Environmental Significance (MNES). This investigation has identified the potential presence of Carnaby's
Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus latirostris) feeding habtiat. However, given the narrow width of the
alignment, its proposed position along road reserves and existing fence lines and the provision of offsets
it is not expected that habitat loss associated with the pipeline will result in a significant impact to the
conservation significant fauna in the area. The habitats identified within the Study Area are well
represented in the area, and the clearing is not expected to result in a reduction in the available
feeding/breeding habitat that would cause species decline. Referral to DSEWPaC is not considered to
be required for this project.
