Urban Blackpack - This backpack is for an individual who wants a product that is
familiar, yet different. While designing and building this prototype, I learned how to
make patterns as well as sophisticated machine and hand sewing techniques. The
user has many choices in how to interact with this backpack, while the functionality
stays clear and international.
Buffa-Low - This bicycle is designed with culture and a low center of gravity in
mind. It’s inspired by custom-choppers, low riders, and drag-racers. The seat is
positioned to make sure that the ride is comfortable, yet aggressive in its style. With
steel tube construction, single speed gearing, and powder coated paint, one can
count on having this bike for years to come.
Taboret - I recently had the opportunity to
rework a previous project into something
that would be more developed and
precise. Many of the same inspirations
and building technics that are found
in the oiginal are developed into the
second iteration - Spinning Bar Stool.
Revolved - This is the result that I have come up with. Everything from the materials
to usability are more developed and sophisticated than the older versions.
Sustainability is built right into the construction. Individual materials (wood/metal)
are easily separated and can be repurposed or recycled on their own.
Wearrior One - Wearrior One started out as a project to save a couple bucks and
use materials that I had from a previous project. This is a yoga carrying ‘bag’ that
holds your yoga mat and a water bottle. I frequently use this to go to my classes.
The design has the unique ability to be worn in various ways. As demonstrated
in the photos, one could use this casually by swinging it over one shoulder like a
backpack/purse or cross buckled to keep more secure on the body. I wanted this
to be a function because some people may like to carry these items through a hike
to find an area to practice. Due to its unique angled strap, both ways of carrying
your belongings are possible and comfortable.
Tide Sport – A smaller bottle with a smaller footprint and more ergonomic design will
ensure that the merchant and the consumer will have a more satisfactory product.
The store can stock more into a smaller area and the buyer will be able to handle
a more comfortable to carry container. Designed with the intent to hold a hyperstrength
liquid detergent.
Logo Design - For every great product there is a logo that could only be one,
I have done a few throughout and I seek to make a mark with each one that is
recognizable, simple, and meaningful in its form.
Boffiti - Experimental Body Art - Used as a form of self-expression on one’s body similar
to using tattoo ink. Only this is not permanent. The concept is that a person would be
able to draw/shave areas of the body to create a beautiful piece of art. I call this boffiti.
The name is a derivative of the words body and graffiti. ‘Body’ for obvious reasons, but
‘graffiti’ because unlike tattoos that will stay on the body permanently (unless removed),
‘graffiti’ will eventually fade/deteriorate/be cleaned. So to ‘boffiti’ is temporary and over
time will longer show its form. The hair will eventually grow back and the drawing (unless
tattooed) will be washed and eventually fade.
Thou Shalt Knot - Every material has its own characteristics. With metal a maker
must deal with warping during excessive heat as well as other factors. When using
solid wood, one must be careful to not to have knots in the desired raw material.
There are the occasions that a person will get that unexpected knot though. What
is one to do? Do you scrap the material and choose to start over with a fresh piece.
Or do you choose to reveal the “imperfection” for the beauty that is hidden within.
What this is showing; is that for every unexpected setback there are opportunities to
find beauty in the material at hand.
Sketching - The process to designing and making a fine looking product does not
start at the end goal, but rather where ideas can easily be manipulated and sought
after. I am currently working out some details in a chair that I hope to make in the
future. The backpacks are what I consider revisions to the ‘Urban Blackpack’. Sure
the prototype has been made, but I think there are always opportunities to make
things even better.
Urban Vinyl Sculpture – This miniature sculpture was designed on paper, examined
and developed on the computer with Rhino, and brought to light with a 3D printer.
It was then painted by hand. While the form is abstract its inspiration came from
nature.
Stay Bronze - This door stopper changes the way a simple objects can be more
complicated than what meet the eye. It’s a design that is not only able to do the job, but
has a fail-safe built right into it. If the sheer weight does not safely stop the closing door,
the tipping wedge design will. Built for indoor and outdoor use.
Nike Goggles -For my summer internship with Nike, one of my many projects were
to design the upcoming strap for the Challenger II swimming goggle. I designed a
product that would be comfortable, stylish, and functional. This among many others
such as color specing and upcoming technologies for swimwear/related items were part
of my responsibilities.
Züz - Los Angeles is a place where people always travel by themselves to their desired
destinations. For reasons like inadequate public transit and too long of distances to
travel by taxi, that will probably not change in the near future. I am proposing a concept
that will link people together in a way that has never been done. Connecting people to
other users, to common destinations, and to potential consumers/businesses. Welcome
to züz, where it all comes together in perfect harmony. With the electric züz motorbike
(Images below are of a Vespa) you won’t just get social, you won’t just learn about new
places, but a person will be able to build a better business using the züz infrastructure.
Bringing consumers to their destinations with incentives like free electric fill-ups and free
parking. One would be able to tap into the resources of the züz network and make an
informed decision on where similar people are going and services provided. In time I
hope to also make changes on the city scale to accommodate communities of people.
Connecting people the way it feels most natural. Bring global networking to your
everyday reality and expand your neighborhood.
2010+ Innovation Award - Project brought to my school (Otis College of Art and
Design) from the Los Angeles Business Journal and Patrick Soon Shiong to design
the award that would be used to honor the most innovative companies stemming
out of Los Angeles. My design was selected out of an elite group of students and
has been used for the past three years. The award is cast in bronze and plated in a
black nickel.
Freedom Memorial - In June 2011, a group of designers and I traveled to Palau in order
to present our Freedom Memorial for their veterans who have served in the United
States army since World War II. While in Palau we had the opportunity to experience
the many things that the country had to offer and learn about the people who live on this
island country. We had a chance to meet with the queen, president, high chiefs, and
many other high officials that are still helping to push this project from concept to reality.
Mo Cohen-Arazi l mocohenarazi.wordpress.com
1 818 645 9216 l mosheacarazi@gmail.com
As a group of four designers working on one aspect of the project,
we felt that to make a memorial that would be relevant and excepted;
we would need to explore the life of a Palauan person and immerse
ourselves in their culture. We looked into their traditional money,
storyboard carvings, sanctuaries, dances, and the more recent
events that are still shaping the country of Palau.
Throughout this project and exploration, we learned many valuable
things about the culture that would help shape the way we envisioned
the project to look. We learned how valuable the ocean is to the people
of Palau, for they could always find food from it and that there are no
memorials for the native Palauan people, even though they contribute
so willingly for our freedom in America. Finally we learned that to be a
Palauan, is to be “family”.
Thank You - I appreciate you taking your
time to look through my portfolio. I am
always working on projects and due
to their finished state, they may not be
in this book at the present time. I feel
that to be a designer/artist is to always
question all that is around and hone in
on the details that could be different
and/or better.
