president of the McCann. Foundation
and Dr. Linus Foy,
president of the college.
The citation came as a complete
surprise to Greenspan. "I
was very surprised and deeply
honored to receive the award and
it probably-was one of the'best
kept secrets on campus this
year." he said.
Construction To Change
College,Entrance^
By Ernest Arico, Jr.
Construction plans have been
approved by the New York State
Department of Transportation,
giving Marist permission to
redesign all three entrances to
the college.
The majority of the work will
center around the north entrance
along Route 9 with completion
date set for September' 1976,
provided . funds are made
available.
Russell "Skip" Aldrich has
been.named new night supervisor
by Philip McCready, director of
safety and security. t. ;
Aldrich, a former security
guard from Interstate Security,
replaces Norman Donahue, who
resigned last week to return to his
former job
Aldrich had previously worked
three months for Interstate
Security, a privately owned
security force located in the town
of Poughkeepsie. He was"
will be blocked off at the end of
the Chapel road at St. Peter's and
re-routed to the traffic light at
Route 9 and: Fulton St., (the
corner of Frank's). This will
enable all traffic (to go) to the
light, thus making it easier for
cars to make turns onto the highway,"
he said.
Administrators of the college
and Br. Donnelly like the plans.
"I think it will be a great entrance.
Have you ever tried to
make a", left hand turn onto Route
9 between 4 and 6 p~m.? Now with
the light change it will be easier
and safer," said Donnelly.
assigned as a security guard to
the Marist College Champagnat
parking lot gate. -'",- ,- -
As night supervisor, his shift
will be from12 midnight to 8 a7m.
and is a happy addition to Mc-
Cready's force. "I think he will be
an asset tojhe security force and
lie has enough experience since'
he has already worked here. As
far as I know) no students have'
complained about him," he said.
•I like this type, of work and I
haven't had any previous trouble'
with the students,'.' said Aldrich,
who felt that one of Marist
College's biggest problems is that
administrators allow too much
drinking. "I think the college
allows too much drinking...it
always leads to - trouble and
problems'," he said.
Aldrich also stated that
security guards should wear
uniforms. "I believe uniforms
would be a good idea because it
adds prestige and respect," he
•concluded.
Facilities Manager To Be Chosen
By Jim Kennedy
A new administrative position
at Marist will be filled by the end
of this week, says Anthony
Campiln, business officer.
The facilities ^manager, a
-'level two" position, which
places him-her under Campiln,
will oversee, the "development
and coordination of full and efficient-,usage-
of all campus
facilities." The job. description
also states that the facilities
manager will receive a salary
between $17,000 and $21,000 per
year. '.•• """ ; '\: ; ; •"•;" : .'' •.-.'
The five.applicants for the job,
which "will become a right arm
of the' business and financial
aspect" of. the -college, - said
Campilii, -are members of the
college community. Their names
were not released.
N - ,
Campilii said the job was not
advertised ' outside the. college
The main obstacle, however, is
money. "We need about $50,000 to
complete the job and. we're
hoping the McCann Foundation
can help us out," says Donnelly.
-
In addition,, the present main
entrance will undergo revision.
The plans call for one way traffic
only. No cars will be able to make
a left hand turn into Marist nor
make a left turn onto Route 9.
Cars may only "exit onto Route 9 '
making a right hand turn.
The south entrance of the
college, according to the plans,
will be widened and resurfaced.
Aldriqh Named Night Supervisor
talent to do the job'from within."
_ The committee to select one of
the applicants will consist of two
administrators and two •• (staff
members. The names of the
committee members are not
River Day
The' College Executive Board
consisting of Anthony Campilii,
business, manager. -I J 6uis v Zuccarello,
academic, dean, and
Edward Waters, vice president,
approved plans Tuesday for a
college-sponsored River Day to
be held Tuesday, April 13. The
River Day will be co-sponsored
by the C.U.B.. student government
and Interhouse Council.
According to Iisa Voerman.
vice president of the C.U.B., "the
purpose of River Day will be' to
provide an opportunity for a
spring celebration, with the
elimination of destruction."
: Andre Green, president of
student government, said,
"We're trying to make River Day
a day for the whole community
and not.just a select few as it has
been in the past."
A band is scheduled to play in
Champagnat square. Free beer
will be provided, and dinner will
be served outside. Other activities
will be student-faculty
softball. tennis and volleyball
games.
River Day was planned this
year to insure that less damage
from vandalism occurs, said
Green. ^
Green hopes the college will
cooperate with River Day.
I^st year the college had to pay.
approximately $1000 in damages
that resulted from River Day.
The college hopes to get "off
cheaper" this year, said Green.
According to Tom McTernan,
CUB ..treasurer, "the college is
giving us $500 to help sponsor
River Day. Various student
groups will make up the
remainder of the cqsL y said
McTernan.
Green hopes RiverDay will be
a success and he is asking for
everyone to enjoy themselves,
but be orderly.
Activities will start.at 12 p.m.
on Tuesday--and continue until
:3U p.m. The rain date is April
Car Broken Into,
• /
By Rhoda Crispcll.
A car was broken into and a
citizen's band radio and antenna
were stolen sometime Monday
night or early Tuesday morning
in a Marist parking lot, according
to Philip McCready, director of
safety and security at Marist.
'In the past few weeks
numerous cars were broken into.
We're doing our darndest to find
the person . responsible," Mc
Cready said.
"We're beefing up controls,"
he added.
McCready said the administration
authorized. security
to hire extra help through In-
Evaluations
Faulter
The student evaluation committee
which was set up last
spring to conduct faculty
evaluations, has stopped functioning.
The five member
committee has been unable to
develop an adequate plan to
conduct the evaluations.
"It is an extremely difficult job
to do professionally. If it wasn't
done well it would look bad for the
people in it, y ' ? says Jim Honan,
member of the committee. According
to Honan, the committee
faced problems on the type of
questions to be asked.on the
evaluation,: the form it would be
in, and the tabulation of results.
The purpose of the committee
•was to evaluate both the course
and instructor. Honan^ says the
job has to be done very
professionally, and he didn't
think the committee could do
justice to the attempt.
terstate Security. Around - the -
clock patrols will be in effect, he
added.
McCready refused to release
information concerning the investigation.
He added that he has been in
touch with security at the
Culinary Institute and Dutchess
County Community College and
they have experienced similar
trouble.
First Priority
_
By Regina Clarkin
Ijeo House Council met with
Fred Lambert Wednesday,
March 31, to discuss funds for the
house. Mr.- Lambert said Leo
House is his "first priority" in the
allocation of funds for the coming
school year.
The House Council called the
meeting to find out how much
money will be available to Leo
House next year." According to
Barbara Kelly, coordinator of
Leo. House Council, a specific
amount of money was not given.
The reason according to Lambert,
is that the budget for the
upcoming school.year is made in
the summer..
Repairs to be made within the
house were discussed. The cost of'
1,hese repairs will come out of
operational funds.'Included in the
repairs will be the restructuring
of the fourth floor from an all
male floor to a coed floor. Other
repairs, to be made will be
recarpeting the hallways and
replastering- the holes in the
walls.

An Offer
To Refuse
'Round about this time of year many administrators on campus
nervously begin munching their fingernails in dreadful anticipation of
that traditional day in spring when almost anything goes - River Day.
- In an attempt to change the hell raising tradition which has
characterized River Day in the past, several student groups have
coordinated efforts and money to present River Day in an atmosphere
of organized celebration. In addition, Marist has kicked in a sum of
$500, not only to get the party rolling, but to prevent other expenses
which might be incurred by Marist studentsihtoxicated by the spirit of
River Days past which were reckless, uncontrolled and just plain
..crazy. •. ;. r • •'•-".."
