This paper on <strong>Bangladesh</strong> is part of a larger study on private agricultural innovation and R&D in eight countries of<br />

Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia that was undertaken during 2008–10 and was funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates<br />

Foundation. The study was collaboratively managed by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Rutgers<br />

University (United States), and McGill University (Canada). Other countries included in the study were India, Kenya,<br />

Pakistan, South Africa, Senegal, Tanzania, and Zambia.<br />

Carl Pray (pray@aesop.rutgers.edu), David Spielman (d.spielman@<strong>cgiar</strong>.org), and Anwar Naseem<br />

(anwar.naseem@mcgill.ca) co-directed the study. The authors thank Md. Nasiruddin for information on rice cultivars, and<br />
