GET READY FOR 2011-12 SKI SEASON:
The Donegal High School Ski Club Advisors, Mr. Swisher and Mr. Stellar, along with Blue Mountain, have worked very
hard to bring the students & their families an inexpensive ski & snowboarding program. Running a club of this size and
nature requires a great deal of time and is an enormous responsibility. The trips will be held on the following dates:
1/5/12, 1/19/12, 1/26/12, 2/2/12, and 2/8/12.
2011-12 SKI CLUB OFFICERS
SKI CLUB
HELMETS
Helmets are mandatory this year. Students must wear a helmet on all trips to Blue Mountain. Students may purchase
their own or rent them at Blue Mountain. Blue Mountain is offering 5 helmet rentals at a very affordable price of $20.00.
EQUIPMENT
To protect equipment against loss or damage on the bus, all poles must be firmly immobilized against the skis. If you
use a “Ski Tote”, please wrap the loose cable around the skis until tight before locking it. It is recommended that you
have a ski or snowboard bag to protect your equipment. Everyone must lock their skis/snowboards when not in use.
Blue Mountain offers a free ski/snowboard check service, Please utilize it to prevent thefts.
CLOTHING
The following are suggestions: thermal underwear, 1 pair of ski socks, turtle neck or sweater, water resistant (if
possible) jacket & pants , warm hat, and gloves. Scarves are prohibited.
SNACKS & LOCKERS
You may wish to pack a dinner & buy a soda because the food is a bit expensive. Rental lockers are available for your
belongings. However, each time you lock them, they cost $0.75. You should only have to lock them twice a night.
BUDDY SYSTEM
Always ski or snowboard with a friend of your own ability & take breaks together. Make a point to learn names of
others in your ability level for this purpose. This is also important in case of an injury. Any injuries, no matter how
small, must be reported to Mr. Swisher.
If there is an emergency or a problem, contact any ski patrol or Blue Mountain employee.
(717)-653-1871 ext. 4130
FAX (717)-653-0414
OFF THE SLOPES
Rental equipment must be returned by 8:30 in order to be in the bus on time for the return trip. Those with their
own equipment should leave the slopes by 8:45 in order to get the equipment loaded onto the bus. The bus will leave
for home at 9:00 Sharp! Return arrival to Donegal approximately 10:45pm.
TRANSPORTATION
The coach buses used for the ski trips will be chartered from Elite Coach and will be equipped with a DVD/VCR and TV.
We will be showing videos on the bus trips. The videos will be rated PG-13 or less and will be shown for entertainment
purposes only. Students are expected to take care of the bus and keep it clean. Students will be responsible for any damage
done to the coach.

SKIER’S RESPONSIBILITY CODE:
1. Ski under control and in such a manner that you can stop to avoid other skiers or objects.
2. Skiers approaching each other on opposite traverses shall pass to the right. When skiing downhill or
overtaking another skier, you must avoid the skier below you.
3. Do not stop where you obstruct a trail or are not visible from above and only stop on the side of a trail.
4. When entering a trail or starting downhill, yield to other skiers.
5. A standing skier shall check for approaching downhill skiers before starting downhill.
6. You shall keep off closed trails and posted areas and observe all posted signs.
7. When walking or climbing in a ski area, skis shall be worn and the climber or walker shall keep to the side
of the trail or slope.
8. All skiers using release bindings shall wear safety straps or ski brakes to prevent runaway skis; skiers are
responsible for possible damage or injury as a result of a runaway ski.
9. If you have a collision resulting in an injury with another skier, it is your responsibility to stay at the site
of the collision until the ski patrol arrives.
10. Do not jump or perform any “aerial” maneuvers.
11. Do not ski slopes too difficult for your ability. Do not let your friends who can ski better than you talk
you into going on a slope that you can not ski. This is only inviting an accident or injury.
12. Do not jump from the lift. In the event of an emergency, the ski patrol will evacuate you.
TERRAIN PARKS
1. LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP. Scope around the jumps first, not over them. Know your landings are clear and
clear yourself out of the landing area.
2. EASY STYLE IT. Start small and work your way up. (Inverted aerials are prohibited).
3. RESPECT GETS RESPECT. From the lift line through the park.
This is a partial list. Always be safety conscious.
CHALLENGE OF SKIING and SNOWBOARDING
Alpine skiing and snowboarding are recreational activities that continually challenge the human spirit. Natural and manmade
obstacles are part of the challenge of man against the mountain and the elements, but collisions with other skiers
and snowboarders and objects can cause permanent, catastrophic injury or death. To enjoy skiing and snowboarding,
you must know and be willing to accept the limits of your ability. Use caution and have fun.
Changing weather and snow conditions, as well as natural and man-made obstacle, exist and are part of the challenge.
Snow making and trail grooming activities are routinely in progress on the slopes and trails, so be prepared. Your
safety will be directly affected by your judgment.
Skiing and snowboarding also challenges your physical condition and may cause stress. Ski areas suggest a skier or
snowboarder have a physical examination before skiing or snowboarding to determine whether he/she is physically
capable of skiing or snowboarding. This is particularly important if you are taking medication of any kind. You will
reduce the risk of skiing and enjoy it more if you are in good physical shape.
INJURIES
While we want skiing and snowboarding to be a safe endeavor, injuries sometimes do occur. The Donegal School
District and Ski Club advisors and chaperons will not be held responsible for injuries or theft of equipment from
those involved in this program. If an accident occurs which requires hospitalization, the advisors or chaperons will
attempt, but may not be able to accompany, the injured student to the hospital. Any necessary transportation from
the hospital to the student’s home will be the responsibility of the parent or guardian. By your signature below, this
disclaimer is accepted by each parent and guardian.
