Roy Wilson Richie McNamara with the biggest catch of the day! TRI PRODUCT POSITIONS: Gone Fishin’! In April of <strong>2003</strong>, the Midwest (John Godina) and Northeast (Rich McNamara) branches of TRI had their first annual fishing trip. They traveled to Key West, FL where they enjoyed beautiful weather and good fishing. They were accompanied by Ed Grover, Roy Wilson, and Richie McNamara, Rich’s son. They caught baracuda, jack cravale’, lane snapper, and mangrove snapper (plus a few hook-ups on larger fish that got away with a free snack). Richie McNamara topped the week with the largest fish - a 20+ pound jack cravale’, but everyone aboard brought “keeper” fish to the boat. Next years destination is yet to be decided, but Lake of the Woods, Ontario is atop the list of possibilities! Happy Halloween! Bareq, Kara, and TR supporting our troops Seattle style. There are drums and bulk available. All locations throughout the USA. Benzyl Alcohol: Bayer factory pack drums and bulk. We stock in New Jersey, Chicago, Houston, and Los Angeles. Featured Product: Caustic Soda Caustic Soda is most commonly manufactured by the electrolysis of sodium chloride brine in either a mercury amalgam, membrane or diaphragm electrolytic cell. The co-products are chlorine and hydrogen. The largest users of caustic soda are the pulp and paper, detergent, and chemical industries. It is also used in the aluminum, oil and gas, and textile industries, mostly for its alkalinity value. TRI Caustic Soda Beads are uniform spherical particles of approx 0.6-0.8 mm. They are dust-free, easy flowing and easily dissolved in water, making them suitable for many applications. TRI supplies material in “TRI” bags. Packing is 50 lb bags, 500 and 551 lb steel and poly drums and 1000kg super-sacks. TRI is a major importer and has stock throughout the United States.
Continued from page one Our current intern, Annabelle Burgett (pictured at right) is the daughter of one of TR’s teammates from OPSB and the Eagles. She was in the top quintile of her class at Lakeside High School (Bill Gates is an alumnus), and unfortunately for us will be leaving to attend Georgetown University next year. She is processing through each one of our departments and has already been instrumental in developing our local Intranet. For those of you who have spoken to her on the phone, you may find it hard to believe she is only 17 years old!! TRI’s new Martial Arts Connection! When Annabelle leaves in January, another UW student, Tatsuro Hayashi, another intern who is already training with us one day a week, will replace her. Tatsuro has a black belt in Karate. Also, congratulations go out to our Systems Administrator, Brian Gorzoch, who just earned his Brown Belt in Kung Fu. The picture above is Brian in the midst of his test. Don’t mess with these two! We’ve had two other significant personnel changes, although neither related to Rugby or martial arts! Jeff Wright (at right, with his sons Daniel [age 6] and Alex [age 4]) has joined us as CFO and comes to us from Gerry Sportswear prior to a two-year consulting stint in Seattle. He is a native of Chicago, where he met his wife of 11 years, Tricia. We welcome Jeff, who has made significant progress in our accounting dept. Jeff replaces Lisa King, who did an outstanding job transitioning us from a failing accounting/logistics package to our current Navision system. Kristeen Williams, left, replaces Regina Carter in our operations department. Regina is attending graduate school, and we wish her all the best and thank her for the great work she did at TRI. Kristeen comes to us from Medisystems, <strong>Inc</strong>., where she excelled as an Import Analyst. Kristeen has already proven to be very effective and patient in learning and working with the unique system we have at TRI. Congratulations to Shondra Garrigus, who has recently been promoted to Operations Manager. We also heard wedding bells this summer for Matt and Colleen Antvelink, who were married in a beautiful ceremony in Michigan on July 12 th . Congratulations to all! Matt and Colleen the newlyweds! Hunter and Spencer Godina We have a few new additions to the TRI family! Laura and Rowland gave birth to Jane Mary Morgan on July 31, and John and Kai Godina had a beautiful baby boy, Spencer, on June 21st. Q4 Market Trends Autumn is finally upon us and thankfully summer is in the rearview mirror. After a slower than usual summer, we are starting to see an uptick in demand throughout the country and across industries. This is confirmed by the recently reported GDP for the third quarter at 7.2%, even though the chemical industry as a whole does not yet reflect such a large increase in volume. Producers attempted to push through Oct. 1 st price increases despite the lack of strong demand. A combination of the weak U.S. dollar discouraging imports, the seasonal increase in demand, and very low production rates at many manufacturers all gave many producers the hope that they could get in front of the price curve. We are now beginning to see numbers rolling back to previous prices, though the prices that are holding are not meeting the full requested increases. Ascorbic Acid is beginning to repeat the upward movement that occurred 12 months ago. In the last two weeks we have seen prices go from approximately $4.00/kg to $7.00/kg plus. It will be very interesting to follow further price fluctuations in the next few months. TRI is constantly involved in the Ascorbic business, so please do not hesitate to contact us. The Glycerine market is also in flux at this time. Imported drum prices have been falling steadily for the past year, but pricing seems to have hit the bottom and is now holding steady. If China enters the buying market again, we may see incremental prices rise. Domestic USP tallow pricing has dropped as well, but not at the same rate as imported material. TRI is a good source for all grades and packaging of Glycerine. Caustic Soda beads have dropped in price during the 3 rd quarter, but business seems to be holding firm now with an increase in demand in the last two months. TRI currently has stock near you. Glycol Ether prices have rolled back. TRI has both bulk material and drum stock. The more advanced items have been able to hold the price increase, but workhorse items like DB & EB have had a difficult time moving up. Overall, business is improving. Margins are still under attack and there is a lot of competition for each order, but it looks like better days are ahead.
