And shall sit as a refiner of silver<br />
and purify the offspring of Levi.<br />
Who can endure the day of God’s coming<br />
and who can stand when the Most High appears?<br />
As for me, I will look to the Most High,<br />
I will wait for the God of my salvation.<br />
THE COLLECT<br />
God of hope,<br />
when your Son appears<br />
may he not find us asleep or idle,<br />
but active in his service and ready. . .<br />

THE RESPONSE<br />
That which we heard from the beginning,<br />
Which we saw with our own eyes and touched with our hands,<br />
The Word of life, which was from the beginning,<br />
We now proclaim to you.<br />
The darkness is passing away<br />
And the true light is already shining.<br />
God is our light, in whom there is no darkness at all.<br />
If we walk in the light, we have fellowship with Christ.<br />

Son of God, Child of Mary,<br />
born in the stable at Bethlehem,<br />
be born again in us this day<br />
that through us the world may know<br />
the wonder of your love . . .
