The project called for the development of
a yoga studio that would integrate natural
elements in order to provide an adequate
ambience within the space. The area was
analyzed to allow for a context sensitive design
that would combine materials extracted
directly from the analysis. The design focused
on providing spaces that would be flexible and
allowed for the users to manipulate them
to their personalized preference.
The Zone d’Aménagement Concerté, the Paris
governmental entity that coordinates private/
larger scheme for the Quartier du Caire. The
ZAC then called for a proposal of a large Place
Lake Michigan Tower 400
03 Chicago, IL
Willis Tower
Aon Center
Tower 400
Lake Point Tower
John Hancock Tower
project location
The concept behind Tower 400
revolves around creating a connection
between the two sites that are divided
by the North Lake Shore freeway.
The tower provides a solution to this
problem by spanning over the freeway,
providing access to both sides from
within the building as well as the
underground garage. The unification
of the two sites brings harmony to the
site. Tower 400 was also designed to
take advantage of the winds that are
prevalent on the shoreline of Lake
Michigan as well as the natural light
that can be exploited during the
winter months. The tower is
positioned in such a way that the views
of adjacent buildings are affected minimally.
Along with the tower, the culinary arts
institute on the lower levels serves as both
a learning institution and a high end
restaurant for the residents of the tower.
Based on the analysis, the proposed
development will focus on bringing pedestrian
District. There is a large potential present for
the development to take advantage of this
economic driver, it would be achieved by
incorporating a Convention Center Hotel
component within the development that would
serve as the main anchor. This will potentially
attract pedestrian traffic through the Texas
Site Plan
The location of the project introduces Phoenix
Avenue as the gateway to the college. The
design is based on the conceptual idea that a
Phoenix rises from the ashes with renewed youth
to live through another cycle. This relationship
is represented by the cycle that all students
go through as they transition through their
educational careers, coming out with renewed
youth to live through the next cycle in their
lives. The focal point of the design becomes the
journey through the central circulation, which
leads through multiple assembly spaces and
terminating in the center courtyard. This space
is utilized as a gathering place for events or
simply for relaxing and watching students work.
Downtown Management District Bicycle Racks
06 El Paso, TX
Downtown Bicycle Rack Locations
The City of El Paso showed an interest in designing
and constructing bicycle racks within the downtown
area. The initial concept enforced the idea of
providing direction to pedestrian and vehicular
traffic commuting through downtown. Early on it was
dertermined that they should provide this direction by
displaying the name of the district in which the bicycle
rack was located. By providing this information the
design would offer both utility and style.
The design would follow the Downtown Management
District’s branding scheme that was in place for each
district, by having the bicycle racks follow the color
scheme composed of pastel hues. This palate of
colors is found all throughout the downtown area in
wayfinding elements. The bicycle rack designs will
also accommodate a diverse size of bicycles.
*This project was developed in collaboration with
Aaron R. Vazquez. While the collaboration was
constant throughout the process, my involvement
began with the conceptial design idea and moved
Urban Objects
The following photographs were taken
throughout my educational career. The objects
of the photographs range from urban settings
and landscapes to architectural details that
were interesting to me in their own merit and
execution. The phothographs attempt to
analyze the interconnectivity of the urban fabric
and the architectural realm. The photographs
then move to a smaller scale by focusing on
materials and the manner in which to link
different materials into a whole composition.
