Alivia Christine Kail, a 19-year-old living in Mt. Washington, went to her brother's home in West Mifflin on March 5, 2011, to gather some clothes.
Alivia told him she planned to move to Florida with her boyfriend, Alexander Lorenzi, of Pittsburgh's Esplen neighborhood.
When her family was unable to contact her by phone for several days, they became concerned. Then Alivia's phone was shut off for non-payment.
When Lorenzi reappeared in Pittsburgh without Alivia and gave conflicting accounts as to her whereabouts, the family's worry deepened.
Lorenzi was arrested on March 30, 2011, for unrelated drug and gun charges. While searching Lorenzi's home and vehicle, police found three spent shell
casings, a pink tote containing woman's clothing and a sheet with a possible blood stain on it.
Alivia's mother, Christine DiDiano, identified the clothing as her daughter's. Lorenzi has been uncooperative with law enforcement officials and has
refused to discuss Alivia's disappeance. Alex first reported to Alivia's family that she had returned to Pennsylvania after their vacation.
However, according to the PA Liv Safe website, Lorenzi has since told family and police that Alivia decided to stay in Florida. Lorenzi is known to travel
out of state frequently and use commercial air lines as well as rental cars. He had made multiple trips to the Naples, FL, and Wheeling, WV, areas in the
weeks before his arrest on the charges unrelated to Alivia's disappearance.
This March on the anniversary of Alivia's disappearance, her family and friends gathered in Brookline, where DiDiano grew up, to hold a vigil to
remember Alivia and spread the word that they haven’t given up the hope of bringing her home.
At the vigil, DiDiano told Dormont-Brookline Patch that reports of missing and endangered children seem to be a new epidemic. She recalled that it had
only been a few months since a vigil was held at the same spot for another Brookline native—Karissa Kunco—whose ex-boyfriend has been charged
in connection with her January death.
Alivia is described as about 5-feet to 5-foot-2 tall and weighing 100-105 pounds. She has green eyes and brown hair, but frequently changes her hair
color. She has a tattoo of a blue flower with swirls on her right hip, and piercings in both ears and above the right side of her lip.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Det. Ken Scanlon of the Allegheny County Police Department at 412-473-1261.
