Ludington Guard Band
The strains of John Phillip Sousa fill the
warm air in Wilson Park Tuesday nights,
June through August. The Ludington
Guard Band is one of the 100-year-old
institutions that make living in or visiting
Menomonie so magical.
Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts
The Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts,
built in 1889, is where ballet, drama,
chorus, folk song, blue grass, and opera
take turns filling the stage. Find center

Performing at the Mabel for over 40
seasons, the community-based Menomonie
Theater Guild presents 3-4 shows every
year, including a major musical. To get

Summer Festivals
The Greater Menomonie Area Chamber
of Commerce presents the Nature Valley
Grand Prix on Saturday June 15th 2013.
On the same weekend starting June 14-15,
enjoy Main Street’s Summerdaze festival.
On July 4th, FreedomFest fills Wakanda
Park with music and lights up the sky with
fireworks at dusk.
The popular Dunn County Fair occurs

A Place for Fine Art
If art is food for the soul, then prepare to
be well fed in one of western Wisconsin’s
most respected art communities.
Ludington Guard Band plays on a summer evening.
The Greater Menomonie area is home
to potters, stone cutters, photographers,
jewelers, sculptors, metal workers, and
painters. Many open their studios for
special occassions
throughout the year
where art lovers can
enjoy and puchase art.
UW-Stout’s art
department contributes
to the richness of the
local arts. Two galleries
are housed in the
department, a student
gallery and the John
Furlong Gallery.
The Mabel Tainter
Center for the Arts
offers a monthly
featured artist in the
upstairs gallery, and
maintains a gift shop
that offers one-of-akind
finds by local
artists. It is also the site
for the Annual Fine
Arts and Crafts Faire
November 23-24, 2013.
The local arts are further supported by
ACT: Arts Coming Together, a consortium
of artists, art organizations, and art
advocates working cooperatively to nurture
artists in their own communities, while
fostering lifelong involvement with the
arts. ACT maintains a gallery and space
for classes, located behind the Wilson Place
Mansion.
Witt Art Gallery is dedicated to artists who
handcraft original works such as pottery,
jewelry, fiber arts, paintings, photography
and garden art. The gallery is attached to
the 1908 Victorian home of Cheryl Witt
and opens three times per year for special
