Purpose of the position<br />
Assist in building strong, healthy relationships with all rugby clubs within the <strong>Manawatu</strong> <strong>Rugby</strong><br />
Union through the provision of advice, guidance, planning support and the development of<br />
strong club/school relationships in order to strengthen rugby within the region. Provide<br />
additional support to the MRU in other areas of its operations.<br />
Key Roles and responsibilities<br />
Club Liaison<br />
Roles:<br />
Establish and maintain effective and efficient communication links with<br />
rugby clubs within the <strong>Manawatu</strong> <strong>Rugby</strong> Union to develop, distribute, and<br />
educate on strategies and ‘best practice’ that assist the rugby clubs.<br />
Assist to develop strong relationships between key personnel in all rugby<br />
clubs and schools within the <strong>Manawatu</strong> <strong>Rugby</strong> Union.<br />
Assist with ensuring all clubs have sound financial management practices in<br />
place and provide hands on support where required.<br />
Ensure that all clubs and schools are aware of the funding opportunities<br />
available to them and the application requirements.<br />
Ensure awareness of services and support available through Regional<br />
Sports Trusts.<br />
Coordinate the development and delivery of job descriptions for club<br />
administration, coaching, and management positions, and regularly review<br />
these to ensure wherever possible barriers to participation are removed.<br />
Develop initiatives to promote clubs as the focal point for their communities.<br />
Provide effective lobbying support and representation for club/school<br />
interests in appropriate forums.<br />
Develop a succession plan for club administrators that identifies, recruits and<br />
trains potential candidates.<br />
Assist with the facilitation of a planning process that ensures that all clubs<br />
have a workable development plan with a view to establishing a three year<br />
plan and annual action plans.<br />
Encourage the development and implementation of IT strategies and<br />
resources at club level.<br />
Establish the specific development and administrative requirements for clubs<br />
and schools in each area and provide needs analysis.<br />

Work with <strong>Rugby</strong> Clubs to develop and deliver practicable strategies to<br />
support the growth of the game and in the region.<br />
Ensure proactive low-level, feasible solutions are provided to correct<br />
immediate problems.<br />
Further the professional development of club administrators through the<br />
provision of appropriate courses or forums.<br />
Develop a volunteer reward/recognition programme.<br />

Competition Management - Control of all operational and administration<br />
aspects of the following rugby competitions:<br />
Senior Club <strong>Rugby</strong><br />
Secondary School <strong>Rugby</strong><br />
Junior Club <strong>Rugby</strong><br />
Central Region Provincial Sevens Championship<br />
Hurricanes Youth <strong>Rugby</strong> Council 1XV Competition and any age grade<br />
competition designated to MRU in a given year.<br />
Governance - Coordination of, or representation on the following groups:<br />
Club <strong>Rugby</strong> Council (acting as secretary)<br />
Operational support Committee (acting as chairman)<br />
Junior <strong>Rugby</strong> Board (MRU coordinator)<br />
Secondary School <strong>Rugby</strong> Board (MRU Coordinator)<br />
MRU delegate to the Hurricanes Youth <strong>Rugby</strong> Council<br />
Event Management – Fulfil an operational role at ITM Cup home fixtures and<br />
pre-season games and take an active role in the planning and running of other<br />
rugby related activities and events conducted by the MRU.<br />
Registration coordination - Ensure that all player and volunteer registrations<br />
are completed in a timely and accurate manner with an emphasis on registration<br />
growth.<br />
Representative Programme – Assist in the planning and implementation of<br />
season campaigns for all MRU amateur representative teams.<br />

Knowledge or understanding of the education sector.<br />
Have basic accounting/numeracy skills and experience and an appropriate level of IT<br />

Experience in speaking to and leading groups of people in either a public speaking or work<br />
group situation.<br />
Be able to display sufficient organisational skills to manage and implement a range of different<br />
processes across various sectors.<br />
The ability to work with a range of different people including coaches, teachers, volunteers and<br />

The ability to meet strict reporting and organisational deadlines and work in pressure<br />
