Darwin, John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

measure of our planet,” said the voice over. Six
names and Austen was the only woman. An estimated
4 billion worldwide and 40.7 million US
viewers watched the opening. What a start to the
Games!
Unfortunately, when Bob Costas recited a list
of some of England’s great authors during the closing
ceremony Austen was significantly absent. If
Mr. Costas doesn’t know any better then clearly he
needs a better editor!
Thank you Marylee Richmond for organizing a
fantastic Box Hill. We had a lovely afternoon at the
beautiful Retzer Nature Center honoring the
Queen’s Jubilee. Members bought such delicious
dishes of food to share. Look for photos later in
this issue.
Thanks to Deborah Koconis for putting together
a wonderful Tea and Milwaukee Rep performance
of Sense and Sensibility that is guaranteed
to shake off your winter blues next January.
This fall the Region will be holding elections
of our Executive Committee. We would love to see

New Dates for the
2013 JASNA AGM
September 27-29, 2013

Dear JASNA Members,
The dates for the 2013 Annual General Meeting
have been changed. The conference will be held
September 27-29, one week earlier then originally
planned.
The Hilton Minneapolis conference hotel approached
JASNA about changing the dates and offered
a reduced room rate and other major concessions
and discounts that will allow us to make the
AGM more affordable and enjoyable for attendees.
Please mark the new dates in your calendar and join
us in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to celebrate the
200th anniversary of Pride and Prejudice.
