NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS
Get into fighting shape
You’ve made the resolution to get in
shape for 2009, but you dread
going back to the gym and doing
the same old routine. Forunately,
you don’t need a treadmill to get into shape;
there are much more interesting options.
Sam Marcellini of Marcellini Martial Arts
in Moreno Valley offers an eclectic range of
classes giving everyday people some time for
themselves to put life’s stresses and problems
behind, get away from everything, make
some new friends, and have some fun with a
workout they can be proud of. With classes
for men, women and children, Marcellini’s
will have you meeting your new year’s goal.
Marcellini’s approach is to offer a program
that is accessible to the novice, but
meaty enough to take you to the highest levels.
“We create a safe and professional environment
with easy to learn and effective
Sam Marcellini (right) with Royce Gracie.
techniques that will work for anybody,”
Marcellini said.
You don’t need a lot of muscle to make
his techniques work. The moves taught at the
academy are based on leverage and timing.
“What's unique about our school is that it's
for everybody, not just the athlete or experienced
martial artist, but also for the guy with
handicaps or a person who hasn't exercised
for 20 years or so,” Marcellini said.
To Sam, martial arts is a total package:
you get self-defense, fitness, and an education
in good character through confidence.
“Martial arts develops qualities that help you
be successful in business, work, school or any
other area of society. With the right teacher
the students of martial arts take their training
to heart and realize that their lessons are
readily applicable to the management of their
daily affairs,” he said.
Training in the martial arts helps to
develop a focused mind, a quality that can be
applied anywhere in life. Marcellini is serious
about his martial arts, and he is eager for his
students to discover the same joys and triumphs
that he has realized.
Marcellini himself is an elite-level instructor
from the Gracie school of Jiu-Jitsu, the
world’s top practitioners in the art. “I trained
with Royce Gracie and his father
Grandmaster Helio Gracie,” Marcellini said.
Marcellini’s Martial Arts Academy is
located at 24471 Sunnymead Blvd. in
Moreno Valley. For more information, call
Fontana
Cruise Night
Closed in January,
back in February
The monthly cruise night in Fontana goes
dark in January, but returns Friday, February 6
at 5pm. New to the 2009 format will be
Family Art Day from 6 to 9pm featuring
Paper Eyrie from Josh Hunt. An artist reception
with artist demonstrations and hands-on
art activities will be held from 7 to 7:30pm.
Every month Cruise Night offers hundreds
of classic cars on display and welcomes
over a thousand people for live entertainment,
a look at the cars, and vendor displays.
The family friendly event also offers free balloon
animals and face paintings for the kids.
Family Art Day is a logical addition to the
monthly event. The quarterly event offers
families an opportunity to explore artistic
expression and a variety of techniques in a
fun environment and introduces the public to
an area-based artist.
Cruise Night is open to the public from 5
