Dear March Madness Committee,
Do you want to save children who need help? Do you want to help them
live, and give them the chance to be a part of this world- to know what it has to
give? Well I do, which is why I believe that a portion of the March Madness
money that we raise should go to the Heart Care International organization.
This is a program that helps children with Congenital Heart Disease that live
in developing countries. About 8-10 children out of every 1000 have this
illness, and approximately 500,000 adults in the US have it. It is the most
common type of major birth defect. Their goal- making a difference, one
child, one country at a time- can be helped along, and we could be the ones to
help make that difference. With this small yet majorly helpful donation, they
could improve the lives of many children, ones that want to live. Wouldn’t you
love to know that you saved a life?
Thump, thump. Thump, thump…Nothing. Waiting for that little beat,
being heartbroken when it doesn’t come, and realizing that it never will. That
is what happened to an innocent little boy. Have you ever known someone
who had their life taken away from them too early? What about someone who
never even got the chance to take their first breath in this world? Well, this
little boy never got to see his family, never got to play a sport, and never got
to see his big sister who couldn’t wait to meet the little angel. This little boy,
William Carter Bierwirth, was an innocent boy, who never got to see the
beauty of this world. He didn’t think a bad thought, and yet he was punished.
He didn’t fall in love, and he never got a chance to meet those who truly cared
about him.
My brother stopped breathing before he was born. I never got to meet
him, and he never got to live. Recently, I have thought about all the things that
he will miss that I will get to experience: falling in love, having a family, and
seeing those that love him are among the more important one. He will never
play in the snow, go to school, have friends- nothing. He never got to enjoy
riding a bike, going swimming, or playing a sport. I will get to do all this, and
the whole time I will be thinking about him and how he will never have fun. I
hope he is ok up there, but who is to really know? This organization can stop
many families from having to experience these horrid feelings and ghastly
thoughts. Do you think anyone deserves to have to experience that? Well, I
don’t, and I want to make a difference.
Heart Care International helps people who need treatments but either
can’t afford it or don’t have the advanced technology that we do that is
needed to do the surgical procedure. To give this type of help in the US
would cost 10 as much as it does to give it to those in other countries. Yet for
them, that would be like a million dollars when for us it would seem like
barely $2,500. If we can afford it here, why not help those that can’t afford it
there?
Right now, we have the opportunity to turn someone’s life around, and
give them a chance at happiness. This organization can help us do something
for the world, and we can help them save lives. Every donation brings them
one step closer to saving a life, and then a country. They need our generosity
to give life to someone, and to reach their goal to help countries everywhere.
Please donate a portion of the March Madness money that we earn to this
organization so that we can help them. I want kids to have the chance to live
their lives and be happy, even though my brother couldn’t. His life ended too
early, but we can help another person’s life truly begin. One person can
make a change and save a life, but all of us can make a difference and save a
country. Help those in need, and save and innocent life. By donating to Heart
Care International, among other charities, WE can make the difference,
together.
I hope you realize how much Heart Care International can help the
world, and I trust you to make the right decision when choosing charities to
receive donations. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
