Cheerleading Handbook 2013
1. Participation
Cheerleading sign-up and registration information for interested students entering 1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd ,
4 th , 5 th , 6 th grades is distributed through all schools in the Centerville Public School District,
including private schools. Each school has its own procedure for distributing take-home
paperwork. All Wee Elk cheerleaders must live within the boundaries of the Centerville Public
School District.
2. Registration
The Wee Elk Board of Directors determines the registration date and time every year. The
2013 registration date is Saturday, March 9th, 9:00AM-12:00PM at Cline Elementary School,
99 Virginia Ave., Centerville, OH, 45458.
All students between the 1 st grade and 6 th grade who reside in the Centerville City School
District are welcome to participate in our cheer organization. We will not have a limited
number this year as long as we have enough parent support in order to organize and run the
cheer program. In the event the Wee Elk Association is unable to recruit enough volunteers to
coach a cheer squad, the Wee Elk Board of Directors reserves the right to reduce the number
of participating cheerleaders. If this should happen, any prepaid registration fees will be
reimbursed.
At the beginning of registration, we will conduct a short informational meeting. Once the
meeting is completed we will conduct the registration. You must turn in the Registration and
Liability Release Form completed (in print) and signed by a parent/guardian. This is the form
your child brought home from school. The form is also available on the Wee Elk website and in
the back of this handbook.
A $150 registration fee is also due at sign-ups. For the second participating child the fee is
$125, for the third participating child the fee is $ 100, each additional child will be $50. Fees
apply to both football players and cheerleaders participating in the program. Please make
check payable to Centerville Wee Elk Football Association, Inc. Cash is also accepted. Any
registrations received after May 1 st 2011 will receive a $50 additional fee. Registration for
cheer will end on June 1 st 2011.
3. Forming Cheer Squads
Depending upon the number of football teams, there will be approximately 20 cheer squads
that will be formed. These squads will consist of Bantam (1 st and 2 nd grade) 3 rd grade, 4 th
grade 5 th grade and 6 th grade. Cheerleaders are placed in squads, after the Wee Elk football
draft (August timeframe), and announced at Wee Elk Cheer Camp.
The placement of cheerleaders is accomplished by a draft procedure approved by the Wee
Elks board of directors. Cheer coaches from 3 rd grade and higher will be able to protect
cheerleaders from the previous year, and then draw any new cheerleaders. The children of
the head coach, assistant coach, and team mom will be protected on the same squad as their
parents. If you are interested in the draft procedure document please see the Vice President
of Cheer for a copy.
