Development News Leave a Legacy Bonita Kugle died in 2008. Today, she will help to bring Sesame Street to the many thousands of children watching WNIT. Bonita was a faithful fan of WNIT Public Television for more than 20 years and she had a passion for children. Even though she didn’t have children of her own, she cared deeply about what children watched daily on television and wanted to make sure there would be wholesome, educational programs for them to enjoy. So, Bonita left us a bequest in her will. Today her memory lives on every time a child watches Sesame Street, Curious George, Sid the Science Kid and many other quality children’s programs on WNIT. We hope you will also make a commitment to leave as your lasting legacy the gift of public television by making provisions to include WNIT in your will through insurance, property or cash. Production News New Seasons for Local Programs Economic Outlook begins its sixth season on September 10. Hosted by Phil D’Amico and produced by Brenda Bowyer, Economic Outlook is a stimulating 30-minute program that reaches out to the business and educational decision-makers who explore the risks and opportunities at work in today’s markets. Economic Outlook discusses issues around economic growth, the impact of education on economic development, key industry sectors, the impact of trade on employment, and a host of related issues. Host Phil D’Amico is the Director of Business Growth at the Chamber of Commerce of St. Joseph County. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from West Virginia University, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Communications from Temple University. Phil has also completed certificate programs in Executive Management from both the University of Notre Dame and Northwestern University. Economic Outlook airs on Fridays at 8:30pm and reairs the following Sunday at 12:30pm. Ask An Expert Ask An Expert begins its ninth season on September 9 with a panel of medical specialists from Elkhart General Hospital. Ask An Expert connects local health, home repair, education and legal professionals to our viewers, who are invited to call in questions and comments during this live, one-hour program. Host Gary Sieber has for many years taught Broadcast Journalism, specializing in News Writing, Ethics and Law as an Adjunct Instructor in Film, Television and Theatre at the University of Notre Dame. In addition, he has managed FCC regulatory and First Amendment legal matters for WNDU, and has twice won finalist awards from the prestigious New York Festivals for his documentary writing. As producer Todd Neely recently stated, “The new season of Ask An Expert will add some exciting changes. Using the Internet, we’ll provide more ways to connect with the experts, give our audience opportunities to share their experiences and add a few other surprises. We’re excited to have Gary Sieber return as host, and look forward to serving the community as we dive in deep to explore important topics.” Politically Speaking Politically Speaking is WNIT’s longest running locallyproduced program, originally airing in 1988. This season, Producer Brenda Bowyer promises an exciting special addition, as WNIT partners with the American Democracy project at Indiana University South Bend to host a primetime debate on October 27 for the Indiana Third Congressional District. In its regular time slot of Sundays at 2pm, Host Jim Wensits brings legislators and viewers together and interviews important regional- and state-elected officials and spotlights the actions of the Indiana General Assembly. Wensits served for more than 41 years covering local government and politics at the South Bend Tribune. A graduate of Purdue University, he also was a member of the Tribune’s Editorial Board, with the position of Associate Editor, from 1992 to 2003. WNIT’s two other local productions, Dinner and A Book and Outdoor Elements will begin their respective seasons in January, 2011. 23
