Established in 1897, <strong>Citizens</strong> <strong>Union</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>York</strong> has spearheaded voting procedure<br />

reform, government accountability and transparency, ethics initiatives, city campaign finance,<br />

state redistricting reform, and key changes <strong>to</strong> city government through legislation and charter revision.<br />

<strong>Citizens</strong> <strong>Union</strong> Foundation, <strong>the</strong> nonpr<strong>of</strong>it research and education organization affiliated with <strong>Citizens</strong><br />

<strong>Union</strong> founded in 1948, moni<strong>to</strong>rs government, conducts research, and analyzes <strong>the</strong> impact<br />

<strong>of</strong> proposed public policy and legislation on <strong>the</strong> city and state. It also educates <strong>the</strong> public through<br />

forums and <strong>the</strong> independently published Gotham Gazette, a news website that reports on <strong>the</strong> effects<br />

<strong>of</strong> politics and policy on <strong>New</strong> <strong>York</strong>ers’ lives, livelihoods and communities.<br />
