MHSBCA Executive Board Meeting Agenda
February 12, 2012 – 10:00 am
MHSAA Building – East Lansing
1. Secretary’s report – Chris Andrews
Need new all-state certificates, will have Tim McDonald purchase new ones.
2. President’s report – Scott Theisen
a. Baseball/Softball meeting – possible new state tournament calendar
i. (D-Sat, R ¼ - W, R-Sat, Semi-Fri, Finals – Sat)
Discussion about this to generate support or not. We agree as a group this is best.
b. Hard helmets for base coaches – to be discussed at next Federation mtg.
MHSAA looking to adopt this at next federation meeting.
c. Insurance for group - $3,000 maximum (saves us if > 600 members, otherwise it
is still $4.50 / member)
NOCAD covers insurance for $3000
d. Rules meeting reminder – possibly on the website?
Coaches need to take this.
3. Committee Reports
a. Clinic – Frank Sumbera
January 11,12 for next year, room rate same. Looking at room rate extension.
Contract for next 3 years with Soaring Eagle with prices frozen. Discussion about
dinner or luncheon. Looking at eliminating the luncheon and upgrade the hospitality.
Give out awards during the day in between sessions.
b. Membership – Jim Leonardo
No report
c. Polls – John Donley
Ready to go with Polls, only a couple regions not represented.
Discussion about Pre-Season Poll, we will get one ready for this year.
d. Newsletter/Youth Liason – Dan Cimini
Interested in baseball articles for website.
e. Scholarships – Chad Logan
Scholarships have been paid.
f. Awards – Glynn Conley
g. Website – Chad Grundy
New website up and running, plus facebook, looking to set deadlines for submission.

H. All-State/All-State Academic – Tim McDonald – Tim has most District reps all set for
this season. He asked for input on a few districts throughout the state.
1. Hall of Fame – Dan Griesbaum – The following coaches were selected to be the
newest members of the MHSBCA Hall of Fame:
John Donley – Berrien Springs Dale Rumberger – Plymouth Salem
Leon Graham – Caro
Timm Rye - Davison
Art Krawczyk – Pinconning Scott Salow – Homer
Dan has also had talks with the Detroit Tigers about having a yearly recognition of the
new members inducted into the MHSBCA Hall of Fame. The Tigers are open to that.
Dan is going to check with them on a game date that they can be honored.
j. All-Star Game – Mario Borrocci - The Detroit Tigers are home during the week that
the All-Star is usually played, so it looks like the game will be a week later. Mario is
working on securing a date for the game. As soon as the date is confirmed, Mario will
contact the hotel, the banquet hall, the practice facility, etc.
Dan G. brought up the idea of putting together an All-star program to sell at the game.
Proceeds to go back into the MHSBCA. Players and families could purchase
advertisements to put in the program. Idea was discussed. The biggest problem is lack of
time from when the players are selected to the actual game.

Luke Epple – Mt. Pleasant
Chris LaMange – East Grand Rapids
Chad Grundy – McBain
New Business – Scott reminded the board that we all need to do a better job of being more
accurate with all areas that we work on. We need to be on top of everything, a step ahead.
We all need to take responsibility of each of our jobs as board members. A few things have
fallen short as far as accuracy and things given to Chad to put on the website. This can’t
continue. We need to double check spellings and e-mail things to each other so that we can
all review what we are putting out there and make sure everything is accurate.
1.Scott is talking to Easton about possibly being a sponsor of the MHSBCA. He
is looking into some financial possibilities from them.
2. Committee Changes – We have discussed in the past about possibly having
current board members working on committees that have a little more work
involved and working so that if and when a current board member decides to be
done, we will have someone to take over and know the responsibilities of that job.
Frank is going to have Chad L. learn the ropes of the Coaches Clinic and help him
out with that for the next clinic.
Motion was made by Frank to adjourn the meeting. Motion was seconded by Tim.
Meeting ended at 1:40 p.m. Next meeting – June 15 in Battle Creek.
