Further Reasoning Rocks
the Casbah
by Adam Bucher ‘09
To kick off the new semester with
one of Archbishop Rummel’s newest
events, local pop-punk quartet, Further
Reasoning, played a 25-minute set for the
student body on the first Friday returning
from the Christmas break.
The band is made up of Rummel’s own
Greg Manson ’09 and Dominic Falati ‘07,
along with Brian Pretus, St. Martin’s ’08,
and Aris Petrou, Jesuit ’08.
Students packed under the gym to watch
the band perform during lunchtime. The
four displayed excellent musical prowess
through intricate guitar harmonizing,
extreme use of double bass, and layered
vocal melodies and rhythms. The group
has been writing music and playing shows
for almost two years and has gained much
local attention which was evident with
Challenge Nears
by Nick Bergeron ‘09
On March 25th, the Archbishop Rummel
challenge team will look to complete the
three-peat against the unworthy Chapelle
Chipmunks on their own turf in the
Chapelle gym at the annual Rummel /
Chapelle Challenge.
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with
opening prayer at 6:50 p.m. and the games
beginning at 7:00 p.m. The games at this
year’s challenge will follow the exact
same format as last year’s challenge:
varsity and junior varsity volleyball,
hippity hop, three-legged race, ping-pong
relay, balloon and ladder obstacle course,
and the egg toss.
“Why are we so confident?” quirked
senior Taylor Roussel. “Well, the majority
of our stars from last year are returning
several students in the crowd singing
along to the band’s lyrics. They were also
critically acclaimed in local magazine,
Anti-Gravity and the online underground
music blog site, N.O. Punks.
The group is currently in the process
of recording their first full-length album
which will be finished shortly and
available to the public. If you missed the
concert, bands associated with Further
Reasoning with similar music include
Taking Back Sunday, Saves the Day, Four
Year Strong, and PMToday.
and after doing some early scouting in the
off-season, we look pretty good.”
Archbishop Rummel has lately enjoyed
success in both junior varsity and varsity
volleyball, however, “we need to
strengthen the goofy game participants,”
said Roussel. “We need some new
prospects to join our experienced stars
and help lead us to our third challenge
victory in a row.”
The Archbishop Rummel student
council will begin holding try-outs for
the various goofy games as well as junior
varsity volleyball in late-January to early-
February. Pay attention to announcements
for more details and information regarding
Challenge.
“R” editorial
The first semester of school has now become a thing of the past and a new
semester and a new year are now upon us. The first semester went smoothly,
but now Archbishop Rummel seniors are closer than ever to graduation and
their collegiate futures.
With May drawing near, many seniors are starting to feel the inevitable
effects of “senioritis,” and are beginning to slip into careless habits concerning
their academics and extracurricular activities. Some of us will be tempted
to simply coast through the rest of the school year, becoming invisible both
inside and outside of the classroom.
As the year has gone by, I have noticed a drop in the enthusiasm shown by
the senior class on a daily basis. Many seniors have thrown in the towel for
the year and have sat by idly and let the days pass away.
Seniors… college is just around the corner. Many of us have already
been accepted into the colleges of our choice. We must remember that
these institutions expect us to maintain our grades through the end of the
second semester. I challenge the seniors of Archbishop Rummel to strive for
excellence as the year comes to a close.
Get the ball rolling on any projects you wish to see happen before your
time as a Raider has ended, continue to perform in the classroom, and most
of all, enjoy the remainder of your days here at Archbishop Rummel. After
all, they are the only days of high school you have left.
