The concept
Wind Direct specialises in Wind Energy
Schemes for supply to intensive energy
users, and is founded on the expertise
of pioneering companies that began
working in renewable energy in the
early 1990s. Wind Direct is part of the
Wind Prospect Group, one of the most
successful independent renewable
energy developers in the world. The
group has secured planning approval
for over 1,100MW of wind energy
projects; directly attributable to careful
site selection, optimised site layouts and
in-depth consultation.
On behalf of the Roy Humphrey
Group, Wind Direct is proposing to
install two wind turbines at their site at
the Airfield Industrial Estate, Eye. The
turbines will have a generation capacity
of 2.5MW each and would provide
the site with a direct supply of clean,
renewable electricity with any surplus
electricity being transferred directly
to the grid. The total energy produced
each year would be the equivalent to
that consumed by 2,796 houses.
In order to ensure that the site is
suitable for wind energy, Wind Direct is
undertaking a full Environmental Impact
Assessment and has commissioned a
range of independent consultants to
assess the scheme’s potential impact on
ecology, landscape and archaeology. In
addition the assessment will consider in
detail the amenity of local residents and
will include a full noise survey.

Project Facts
➜ The proposed turbine type
is a Nordex N100 which has
been identified to suit the site
conditions.
➜ The turbines would have a
rotor diameter of 100m and
a hub height of 80m.
At maximum extent they
would reach approximately
130m high.
➜ Any planning application
would be for an operational
period of 25 years.
➜ Following a successful planning
application, it would take 12–
18 months from commencing
the project to operation.
➜ Construction would take
place over approximately
25 weeks.
➜ Erecting a wind turbine only
takes two days.

Roy Humphrey Group
The Humphrey Group was started in the early 70s when
Roy Humphrey purchased a village garage in Yaxley near
Eye. Roy extended the range of services he offered with
a vision to build a complex catering for all transport needs
and the company now occupies a 70 acre site at the
Airfield Industrial Estate.
SITE LOCATION
With a high cumulative energy usage across the estate
and over 150 people employed at the site, the Humphrey
Group is ideally placed to benefit from on-site generation.
The initiative will bring the company vital price stability and
security of supply, with the added benefit of enabling a large
scale consumer of energy to reduce its carbon footprint.
