Moreover, the B<strong>HR</strong>C, through cont<strong>in</strong>ued<br />
communication with the Roundtable<br />
participants now has an effective means of<br />
keep<strong>in</strong>g a close eye on the <strong>HR</strong> needs of the<br />
sector.<br />
Next Steps<br />
The first Strategic Human Resources Roundtable succeeded <strong>in</strong> its ma<strong>in</strong><br />
objectives of provid<strong>in</strong>g <strong>HR</strong> professionals with a network<strong>in</strong>g opportunity to share<br />
successes and challenges, and provid<strong>in</strong>g B<strong>HR</strong>C with feedback on the <strong>HR</strong> needs<br />
of the sector. Participants voiced a strong and clear message that they want<br />
more network<strong>in</strong>g and discussion opportunities, and more concrete <strong>in</strong>formation on<br />
useful <strong>HR</strong> Tools, Services and Best Practices. In the words of one participant<br />
“this was a good first step at identify<strong>in</strong>g problems – but now we must work on the<br />
solutions!”<br />
To build on the success of this event, participants suggested a number of<br />
options, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g:<br />
• Circulation of email addresses of all participants<br />
• Construction of email / web forum (discussion group, chat room, list serve)<br />
where registered biotech <strong>HR</strong> practitioners could regularly seek each other’s<br />
<strong>in</strong>put on particular items<br />
• Collect, develop and make available resources that provide <strong>in</strong>formation on<br />
biotechnology <strong>HR</strong> policies and best practices<br />
• Make the biotech <strong>HR</strong> Roundtable a regular event (perhaps annual or<br />
biannual), with specialized topics and expert guest speakers.<br />
Throughout the com<strong>in</strong>g year, the B<strong>HR</strong>C will work with the <strong>Biotech</strong> <strong>HR</strong><br />
Community to put these suggested items and activities <strong>in</strong>to place.<br />
