Steps to Becoming Certified as an MCN…
Review: Recommended - one month prior to testing for adequate preparation. Exam reviews are held in December, January - in
conjunction with the Great Lakes Trade Exposition, February, March, and June.
Qualifications: You must apply to take the MCN Exam and demonstrate the required 2,000 hours of green industry work experience
(relevant education may work towards some of these hours).
Testing: Content is based on the study manuals. Written exams are administered in November, December, January, February,
March and July at various locations throughout Michigan. Once you pass the exam, you can activate your MCN status.
Renewal: The certification period is January 1 - December 31. Renewal includes a yearly fee and the earning of six continuing
education units (CEUs). A CEU is defined as one hour of educational training.
