Bald eagle over Mississippi River
La Crosse Quick Facts
Home to 52,000 people, and with a metropolitan
population of more than 155,000, La Crosse really
is a choice town. Breathtaking beauty surrounds
the city, which is nestled between the majesty of
the Mississippi and the scenic tree-topped bluffs.
No wonder La Crosse is known as “God’s Country.”
La Crosse is a perfect blend—charming and safe
like a small town but filled with exciting recreational
and social opportunities like any big city. It’s a
great place to go to school, live, and work. More
than 12,000 college students from the city’s three
college campuses agree. Bustling with energy,
there’s always something to do.
For the nature lover: Ski, boat, canoe, swim, hike,
bike, walk, jog, rollerblade, hunt, fish, or read a
book by the river.
For the city lover: Shop at Valley View Mall or in
the downtown historic district. See a movie or a
play. Check out the concert listings. Grab a latte or
smoothie in one of the city’s coffeehouses. Listen
to the symphony in the park. Explore the art galleries
or simply check your email at an Internet café.
