CAREER PROFILE<br />
<strong>Jack</strong> is a Senior HPI Specialist with Facilitated Integration Technology (F.I.T.). He has<br />
wide and varied experience and can assist organizations in Refining and Chemical<br />
Processes, IT, Advanced Process Control, Unit and Plant-wide Information and<br />
Optimization Systems, Oil Movements and Custody Transfer, System Management ,<br />
Business and Work Processes, Causal Learning/Reasoning(including Human Factors and<br />
<strong>Inc</strong>ident Investigations), as well as Organizational and Infrastructure changes, Project<br />
Management, Benchmarking(extensive Solomon experience), Supply Chain<br />
Management, Process Safety and Technical Assurance.<br />
<strong>Jack</strong> retired from Shell/Motiva in late 2004 after more than 31 years. He has held a<br />
number of Technical, Operations, Management and Senior Leadership positions, where<br />
he was valued for his pioneering achievements, creative problem solving, strong<br />
customer relations, negotiation skills, systemic thinking, strong interpersonal and<br />
leadership skills. He enjoys working with diverse cultures and organizations. He has a<br />
strong passion for integrated organizations and systems, focused on achieving excellence<br />
while having fun doing it.<br />

General Manager – Technical Services - Motiva Convent/Norco Refineries<br />
Same Engineering responsibility as prior assignment(with additional refinery) excluding<br />
Environmental and portions of S&H(still retained process safety and technical<br />
assurance). Challenges include developing a consistent culture, plans, resource model,<br />
and mental models necessary for the operations to meet the “One Business – two sites”<br />

General Manager(VP for Norco Refining Co) – Technical Services – Norco<br />
Responsibility for all Engineering and SH&E functions for the newly formed Norco<br />
Refining Company. Also during the transition planning, prior to the Merger with<br />
Texaco/STAR, assigned to the Supply Chain Management team in Houston for 50% of<br />
the time working with all the business functions to draft the goals and plans for SCM<br />
synergies resulting in $500MM in identified savings. Major Norco accomplishments<br />
include, moving refinery from 4 th quartile non-energy variable cost performance to “best<br />
3” in our EDC size group, through increased local focus and vendor contract/interaction<br />
negotiations, significant technical assurance progress in the areas Protective Instrument<br />
Systems(PIS), receiving “best in class” rating, Pressure Equipment Integrity(PEI ) adit<br />
(2 nd best Shell), Safeguarding Studies/mitigations, rebuilding of eroded local skill<br />
pool(both business and technical), and completion of new generation Systems<br />
Management/Custody Transfer/Oil Movement System. Active participant / leader in<br />
corporate Refining Technology Leadership Team(RTLT), and the Alliance Consistent<br />
Practices Team.<br />
March 1992 – June 1996<br />
Manager – Process Control – Westhollow Technology Center<br />
After numerous consolidations, responsibilities included advanced control applications<br />
and research, process analyzer applications and research and instrumentation for US<br />
along with Engineering Directorate interface to most Chemical business<br />
Operations/Technical Teams. Significant accomplishments include, Process Control<br />
Technology Package developed and utilized world-wide, major harmonization activities<br />
with Royal Dutch - Amsterdam, leading to SMOC/QDMC consolidation, outsourcing<br />
and sales of numerous technologies, consolidation of research activities, initialization of<br />
the RADDICAL suite of desktop applications as well as the first WTC<br />
commercialization efforts.<br />
July 1982-February 1992 – Norco Manufacturing Complex<br />
Computer Control Engineer (1 yr)<br />
Initially started learning new technology in Utilities area. Accomplishments include<br />
development of stochastic boiler optimization, advanced pressure control of complex fuel<br />
system, electrical system optimization and computer control/monitoring of utility<br />
systems.<br />
Supervisor - Computer Control – Oil Products, Logistics and Specialty Chemicals<br />
Responsible for Computer Control activities in all refining units, Utilities, Hydrocarbon<br />
Systems/Logistics, Lab, and West Site Chemicals. Accomplishments include<br />
justification of numerous re-instrumentation and computer control/optimization projects,<br />
including all fuels units(except Alkylation) and first Hydrocarbon Logistics, System<br />
Management and Custody Transfer computer system.<br />

Manager – Computer Control – Norco Manufacturing Complex<br />
Additional responsibilities for the Olefin Facilities. Completed implementation of all<br />
above mentioned projects as well as Olefin On-line optimizations, first in-line gasoline<br />
blending exemption for the EPA(direct to pipelines and ships) and completion of<br />
Complex-wide real-time material balancing/accounting system along with significant<br />
integration of Planning tools/optimizers with the on-line unit optimizers. Significant<br />
activities in reconciliation and real time model updates. Also led significant system<br />
rebuilds after devastating CCU explosion May 1988. (Decision was made to not restart<br />
facility until all real time computer systems were available)<br />
Superintendent – Control Systems Engineering<br />
Led consolidation of Computer Control and Instrumentation Departments.<br />
Responsibilities included all automation activities with significant vendor contract<br />
renewals, retraining of staff to new Control System Engineer classification(combination<br />
of Advanced Control and Instrumentation) and new Maintenance Craft hiring/training.<br />
Sept 1973-June 1982<br />
Shell Agricultural Chemicals(Mobile, Denver and Houston)<br />
Instrument, Process and Environmental Engineer<br />
Numerous unit support and project assignments including relocation and start-up of<br />
Denver units to Mobile, incinerator and biotreater designs, animal health and consumer<br />
products production and environmental permits. Also worked with team to negotiate sale<br />
of Technology to Soviet Union.<br />

Numerous assignments including process research, pilot plant design/operation/scale-up<br />
for final design, coordination of design operability reviews and license negotiation with<br />
Sumitomo Chemicals.<br />
Operations Manager – Mobile BLADEX® Facility<br />
Initially responsible for operation of raw materials(coordination of toll conversion<br />
agreements with Degussa Chemical),reaction, solvent recovery and effluent treating<br />
sections. After start-up also assumed responsibility for Product crystalization, recovery,<br />
solids handling, packaging and shipping.<br />
Pinkerton Security Services(1969-1972)<br />
Security guard at numerous facilities and co-employed at several research facilities<br />
monitoring experiments during off-hours. Developed initial remote monitoring system<br />
for laboratory use.<br />

Initially started as timecard coordinator for payroll|, quickly moved to production as<br />
Wireman, Tester and QA Technician, joined DecTape and DecDisc development team.<br />
Graduate of internal “Twilight Tech” training program(rare for a youth), becoming Field<br />
Service Rep and Systems Program Tester.<br />
