ROUND 14
Round 14 marks the beginning of the three tiered senior
competition for the Bonaire EDFL.
With all Division 1 clubs having played each other once
during the 2012 season, the top 8 clubs remain in Division 1
whilst the remaining six clubs form the inaugural Division 2
competition.
This weekend marks two years in the making, with clubs
having known the qualification process for Division 1 and
Division 2 for over 12 months.
It marks an exciting time for the EDFL. One of the aims of the
three division competition has always been to create more
competitive matches more often. The Division 1 competition
will prove to be a very even competition for the remainder
of the 2012 season. Hadfield, sitting in eighth position, have
defeated top of the table Airport West and have drawn with
second place West Coburg, demonstrating how close this
competition will be.
East Keilor and Hillside become hot favourites in the Division
2 competition but the form of Roxburgh Park and Moonee
Valley of recent times shows that both clubs would not want
to underestimate their opposition.
Both competitions will host a final four at the end of their
respective home and away seasons, providing each of the
clubs plenty to play for in both competitions.
The Eastern Football League runs a very good four divisional
competition and the Northern Football League a three
divisional competition and the Bonaire EDFL believes we
have the capacity to coordinate three successful competitions
as well.
The Bonaire EDFL has brought back the Bonaire EDFL
web-tv footy show. Hosted by Michael Pell and with regular
panellists Adam Papal and Matt Pillios, the show has now
produced three episodes and it will return as a regular feature
for the remainder of the 2012 season. The show can be
viewed from the Bonaire EDFL website and is available every
Tuesday.

Only two games on for the weekend as Premier Division
enters a split round, paving the way for their cousins
Division One and Two to steal all the lime light.
There will be no shying away from the clashes at
hand however with arch rivals Pascoe Vale hosting
Strathmore and the inform Essendon Doutta Stars
welcoming Greenvale.
For both Pascoe Vale and Essendon Doutta Stars they
face extreme tasks of trying to tame the might of the
Mores and Jets however both sides form in recent times
suggests they will be anything but a push over for the
powerhouses of Premier Division.
Pascoe Vale have got the better of Essendon Doutta
Stars on both occasions this season, however they sit
on five wins each with the Panthers pipping the Stars on
percentage. Since they last met in Round 10, both sides
have had three weeks of impressive football, putting
them on the radar of a top four position.
Pascoe Vale have defeated Oak Park and Craigieburn
and challenged Greenvale at Section Rd. Last time they
played Strathmore they only went down by 39 points, a
commendable performance considering the scintillating
form the Mores have shown this season.
At absolutely full strength and if everything went their
way you would give them every shot of causing a boil
over but expect the Mores to be too strong.
Douttas past three weeks saw the upset of the season
over Aberfeldie, a belting of Oak Park and another
strong win against Craigieburn. They enter this clash
with Greenvale as outside favourites but much like
Pascoe Vale, if all things go well we could possibly see
a double upset bonanza on a shortened weekend of
Premier Division action.

Brown saves Marby ala Karmichael
COREY Brown won't mind that he kicked only the secondmost
famous after-the-siren goal at the weekend.
Barely two hours before Karmichael Hunt stunned the footy
world with his after-the-siren goal for Gold Coast against
Richmond – giving the Suns their first win of the season –
Brown was giving Maribyrnong Park a stirring win in its seesaw
clash against Avondale Heights.
The win could prove vital for Maribyrnong Park in its
Essendon District Football League premier finals race as it
opened up a one-game gap for the Lions from fourth to fifth.
Brown marked a pass from Trent Lee and converted a 25m
set shot after the final siren to make the scores 16.12 (108)
to 15.12 (102).
Maribyrnong Park (7-6) now sits in the top four by a game
from Oak Park (5th, 6-7) and three teams tied from sixth to
eighth – Pascoe Vale, Essendon Doutta Stars and Keilor (all
5-8).
Avondale Heights looked like a winner at Canning Reserve
midway through the final quarter after overturning a one-point
three-quarter-time deficit to open up a three-goal lead.
But the Lions rallied to kick five unanswered goals and hit
the front.
Avondale Heights fought back to level the scores and got the
ball to its goal line in search of the go-ahead score, only for
Maribyrnong Park to clear off the last line of its defence.
Lee had marked 35m out from goal in the final seconds
before passing to Brown on a 45-degree angle, with the grab
followed by the final siren.
Needing only a point to secure victory, Brown kicked truly to
make sure his first major of the day was the match-winner.
Luke Livingston was the main forward target for Maribyrnong
Park with six majors, while Lee booted four and Romain
Grenville kicked all three of his goals in a third-quarter burst.
Five Avondale Heights players kicked two goals each, with
Xavier Clarke, Phil Wills and Danko Bzenic better players.
Murray Boyd was named Maribyrnong Park's best while
Grenville, Brown and Lee were other leading players.
Two Blues tighten hold as new coach makes big impact
THE impact of a mid-season coaching change has been
immediate at Aberfeldie after a second straight lopsided win
under Mal Michael for the Two Blues at the weekend.
Injury and absentee-hit Oak Park proved no match for
Aberfeldie in Essendon District Football League premier
division on Saturday as 10 first-quarter goals killed the game
as a contest.
Aberfeldie secured a three-game cushion inside the top four
with the 24.13 (157) to 6.7 (43) win while knocking Oak Park
out of the top four in the process.
Liam Turner kicked Oak Park's only goal of the first quarter
at the 10-minute mark to peg back a quick Aberfeldie start
to a 14-point deficit. When Turner kicked his and Oak Park's
second goal 10 minutes into the second term, the margin
was 57.
Straight kicking was the key to Aberfeldie blowing open the
contest early, with Daniel Mangan and Alistair Kefford kicking
three goals each in the opening term as tall targets in the
Two Blues forward line.
When livewire small forward Daniel Castellano kicked a
running snap goal at the 28-minute mark the margin was 44
and the game teetering on the edge.
A 50m penalty that walked Cameron Sharp to the goal line to
convert after the quarter-time siren put Aberfeldie 56 up and
all but ended the game as a contest.
Frustration set in for Oak Park in the third term, with scuffles
and spot fires breaking out around the ground.
Adrian Mastropasqua was the only player to overstep the
line however, getting sent off for the rest of the game after
the biggest brawl of the match in the 16th minute of the third
term.
Mangan finished with four goals, Kefford five and Castellano
three in a productive, if not prolific, day for the Aberfeldie
forward line.
Lachlan Hutchesson managed to kick three goals in addition
to a tagging role on Oak Park midfielder Jesse Smith.
Alex Gleeson, Tom German and four-goal Turner fought
hardest for the losing Kangaroos.
"We've subtly changed our game style and implemented
certain things to help us be a bit more efficient and
predictable," Michael said.
"Last week they were against a team lower on the ladder
(Avondale Heights) so we were expected to win. The
margins are pleasing but I'm more happy with the fact we're
conceding less goals.
"Lachy Hutch on Jesse Smith, who is such a damaging
player for them, did a really good job.
"The players that came into the team did their roles and it
was pleasing from that point of view."

CVGT RISING STAR AWARD
Mark Anderson - Essendon Doutta Stars FC
Mark Anderson has continually been a shining light in the
junior ranks of the Essendon Doutta Stars Football Club over
the past twelve seasons when things on and off the field for
the club have been tough.
The Anderson name is synonymous within the Stars with
Mark’s dad Brett a former President and his older brother
Jamie an established senior player at the club.
Mark is now making a name for himself after progressing
as an elite junior through the ranks at the Stars, which has
seen him win a best in league award in the Under 12’s and a
runner up in the Under 16’s.
Such individual success has also come with the honor of
representing the EDFL on three occasions.
After a strong first season in the Under 18’s Division 1 team
in which he played 18 games he managed to put himself into
senior contention under Marcus Barham in 2012 with a strong
pre-season and some gain in size which has allowed him to
compete with the more powerful bodies of senior football.
For the mean time Mark
is determined to keep on
playing good football in the
Under 18’s with a few more
games in the seniors the
ultimate goal, he says “it’s
great to have the seniors
back on the winners list, as
the whole club is buzzing
with excitement about the
future”

In Round 5 against Greenvale Mark was granted his dream
of making his senior debut for the Stars and described it as
a being “pretty nerve racking at first but after my first knock i
started to get into it”
Mark said, “I love playing at Douttas and I couldn't ever see
myself leaving and to play a few games of senior footy for
them was a good experience”
He is currently at Cricket Victoria’s Sports Education and
Development Australia School (SEDA) completing his
Certificate 4 in Sport and Recreation Management and
enjoys the “laid back approach SEDA has”, with his ultimate
goal being a career in the sports industry.

James Philpot Maribyrnong Park
In his first season for Maribyrnong Park, James
Philpot is working hard as the sole ruckman for
the Lions, with a strong possibility that they will
be in the mix come finals time.
Before moving to Marby at the start of this year,
Philpot had spent the last three seasons playing
in the Western Region Football League (WRFL)
for Albion.
Philpot considers the standard of the EDFL to
be much better then the WRFL, with a larger
group of talented sides more evenly spread
across the competition. This distribution of
talent was something lacking in WRFL, where
Albion would often win games by over 200
points and only really be challenged by one or
two sides.
Although Philpot is only playing his first season
at Marby, he is no stranger to the EDFL, having
played his junior years at East Keilor as well
as playing some senior games down the
Calder Freeway at Essendon Doutta Stars. He
also spent some time in the VFL, playing for
Williamstown.
Philpot has described the Lions injury ridden
season as being a bit “up and down” with
injuries to key players such as Heath Ayres
and Jackson Barling. Philpot himself has been
carrying an injury since the Lions clash with
Greenvale in round 11, however he has been
able to continue to play.
A supporter of Carlton in the AFL, Philpot is
also good friends with Collingwood player Dane
Swan from their days at Williamstown. Swan,
who is also an ex EDFL player, completed
his junior career at Westmeadows, and will
be making an appearance at the Marby Lions
Sportsman night this Thursday.
THE GAME
Off field, Philpot is currently taking time off work
and is returning to study part-time to finish his
Economics and Finance Degree at RMIT in
August.
A father of one, Philpot enjoys spending time
with his two year old son Coda, who loves going
to the park and kicking the footy around.
Looking ahead to the finals, Philpot sees the
Lions impressive performances against the
topsides like Greenvale, who they only lost
to by two points, as a promising sign for their
potential finals campaign. Now the Lions just
have to focus on maintain their spot inside the
top four.

For the first time in a long time we have a Division One
fixture with games that could go either way.
Hopefully we have seen the last of blown out margins
across all games and the beginning of nail biting and
gripping football where people can go to the game and be
genuinely excited about what they are going to witness.
Tullamarine at Leo Dineen Reserve are always a
dangerous proposition and with Airport West’s superstar
centre half forward Clayton Rogers out of action the
Demons may look to capitalize on the emotion exerted by
the Eagles post last weekend’s incident riddled win over
East Keilor.
Airport West have not seriously been challenged since
their shock loss to Hadfield in Round 4 and they will be
craving a hardened finals like contest.
Expect fireworks as Tullamarine fight for a finals footy birth
against the Division One powerhouse.
Westmeadows coming off the back of 75 point belting to
Glenroy will have their work cut out against a West Coburg
side that will be looking for revenge after being shown up
by a determined Hadfield. Westmeadows at Willowbrook
Reserve are a different team but a rebounding West
Coburg should make light work of the Tigers.
Glenroy (4 th ) versus Taylors Lakes (3 rd ) is the match of
the day broadcast game with Taylors Lakes coming off
a massive win away from home against the Northern
Saints. Given the 46ers last three weeks since their loss
to the Lakers in Round 10 which have included wins over
Tullamarine, Hillside and Westmeadows this game is set
to deliver an early taste of what finals footy will be like.
To round out Division 1 football as an eight team
competition for the first time, the Northern Saints host
Hadfield. If the Hawks are any chance of defeating the
Saints, they must ensure they don’t give up a 50-1 quarter
time deficit like they did in Round 10 and ensure they take
care of Bassman Abdulwahed as he and Rocky Ferraro
loom as the keys to a Northern Saints turn around in form.

EDFL FOOTBALL WELCOMES DIVISION 2
Today is a historic day for the EDFL, a bold
and ambitious decision to split the Division
One competition following Round 13 to see the
introduction of a six team Division 2 competition
has seen mixed reactions and emotions since the
decision.
There can be no more complaining or moaning it is
here, upon us and there is a collective excitement
about this new beginning.
Hello and welcome to all Division 2 clubs, whilst
some of you would have been hoping to see Division
One action for the remainder of 2012 and into 2013
there is still plenty of excitement and intrigue to take
place over the remaining four games before a finals
kick off on August 18.
The teams:
East Keilor has been on a rollercoaster ride during
2012. Coach Steven Kolynuik was shown the door
before Rd 8 with interim coach Bill Asani unable to lift
his troops into Division 1 after a finals appearance in
2011.
The junior structures in place at the Cougars are
excellent with former Collingwood rookie and East
Keilor junior Tom Hunter doing an excellent job as
coach of the Under 18’s. His side has been a force
in the Division 1 competition sitting second on the
ladder and will be extremely disappointed to move
down a level. Jordan Maddern was the Under 18
competition best and fairest winner last season and
has continued his great form in 2012, whilst Dion Hill
is another name to look out for.
The Cougars are raging favourites to take out the title
given the fact that they challenged Airport West last
round and have hardened finals experience within
their side.
Hillside was an outside chance of sneaking into the
Division 1 top eight a few weeks ago but needed a
miracle which did not come about. They sit on five
wins and eight loses the same as their challenger for
the Division 2 competition in East Keilor.
In Alan Ezard’s first year in charge at Shark Park
Tumay Hamza has been a revelation with captain
Jarrod Catania and vice captain Troy Stone holding
the key to the Sharks chances of bridging the 24
point gap that the Cougars defeated them by in
Round 11.
Moonee Valley is the smoky of the competition,
captain John O’Brien coming back from University
Blues to his junior club has lifted his men on
countless occasion with Liam Johnson a consistent
performer for a team that has only won three games.
Roxburgh Park under playing coach Joel Ferguson
has become a competitive team who are scoring
constantly despite some heavy defeats. You get the
sense that this young team is starting to gel after a
couple of season of senior football as raw and young
juniors. They will more than likely see finals action
under the new competition.
Their under 18’s would also have avoided relegation
if such a system existed for the reserves and seniors
however they will have to try their best to bring down
East Keilor’s might in that competition.
Keilor Park’s tumultuous off season where they were
coach-less for a period of time has translated into
their on-field form, despite some handy recruits and
the fact that they were a force in Division One last
season.
Coach Rob McClusky has been re-appointed for
season 2013 and will be looking to hold onto most of
his list in the anticipation they can recruit strongly and
have a far bigger pre-season than the one gone by.
Jacana will be the biggest the beneficiaries of the
new competition, it is hoped that limited big losing
margins for the Jaguars will see a new approach by
Brett Jensen and the committee in the hope they can
recruit new players.
Credit must go to the Jaggers for continually having
a crack on the field, desite all their hardship they
continue to play and give it their all.
Given the large area of Broadmeadows, it is hoped a
strategic plan can be put in place to make sure that
the football loving community of that area can be
drawn to play for the Jaguars in years to come.

Entering the Division Two competition there can be
no doubting the power system in place as these six
teams enter their last four games of the season.
East Keilor are the team to beat, Hillside are their
challenger, Moonee Valley and Roxburgh Park will
need something special to get above them and Keilor
Park and Jacana are at long odds to see finals action.
None of these facts however will take the gloss or
the intrigue off what so many keen EDFL eyes are
interested in seeing…some good, competitive and
hard football.
Keilor Park head to Jacana with the need for a big
win and some improve in percentage to be able to
pip Roxburgh Park in fourth position. The Jaguars
managed to get 34 points past Keilor Park last time
they met despite losing by 132 points and will be out
again to inflict some damage on the scoreboard.
Hillside host Moonee Valley with the home side 43
point winners in Round 10 when they last met. The
Valley is not very fond of Shark Park and given this
negative mindset will find it tough to secure four
points.
In the last game East Keilor head to Roxburgh Park,
a team that they had trouble shaking back in Round
4 at Lakeside Reserve. Things are different this time
around though for the Cougars and you sense that
with their farewell performance last week in Division
One they are primed for a big game this week in front
of their home fans to just let everyone know they are
the real deal.

Be a part of history and be involved in East Sunbury’s
inaugural senior side for season 2013!
Affiliated with the Essendon District Football League, East Sunbury
boasts a strong junior base and is looking to develop
a senior and reserve contingent to the club.
We seek the services of a senior coach, reserves coach and players
as we venture into an exciting chapter of the clubs history with the
creation of our inaugural senior squad.
Expressions of interest for all coaching positions for 2013 will
be accepted including Seniors, Reserves, U18.5 and juniors.
Prospective coaches with excellent communication skills and an
ability to motivate, teach and encourage a developing squad will be
highly regarded.
Applicants for coaching positions are required to have the
minimum Level 1 coaching accreditation or willing to obtain.

HARRY WEAVER
WEST COBURG FOOTBALL CLUB
Harry Weaver is 10 years old has played 47 games, 3
seasons with West Coburg and wears number 10. He was
diagnosed with a Perthes disease (a disease of the hip joint)
at the age of 5 (prep) and for the next two years was in a
wheel chair and broom stick plasters. He wasn’t aloud any
impact movement and had to do exercises in slings and
springs before and after school. He has made a full recovery
and participates in Footy, Cricket, Tennis, Golf and Hockey.
Harry barracks for Collingwood, his favorite players are Scott
Pendlbery and Harry O’Brien, he enjoys playing footy with
many friends at West Coburg.
