Class of 2009 Accomplishment Highlights<br />
• The Class of 2009 will scatter to attend 41 different colleges in 14 different states<br />
• Nearly $5 million in merit scholarship offers came from colleges and independent<br />
sources<br />
• Fifty-eight of the 115 graduates were offered college-sponsored scholarships<br />
• The University of Cincinnati and its regional campuses will see the most 2009 MHS<br />
graduates on campus next fall, followed by Miami University, the College of Mt. St. Joseph,<br />
and the University of Kentucky<br />
• Students were offered admission at 103 different colleges<br />
• The Class of 2009 sent 403 applications for college admission<br />
• Twenty-three seniors were inducted into the Cum Laude Society<br />
• Honors Diplomas from the state of Ohio were awarded to 43 seniors<br />
• Thirty-nine seniors earned the “President’s Award for Education Excellence”<br />
• Forty seniors were members of the National Honor Society<br />
• Three seniors were named “Finalists” by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation<br />
and all three were awarded National Merit Scholarships<br />
• Five seniors were named “Commended Students” by the National Merit Scholarship<br />
Corporation<br />
• Forty-eight seniors earned the “Award of Merit” from the Ohio Department of Education<br />
• 88% of the 2009 graduates plan to attend college right away in the fall of 2009; 12%<br />
will either engage in a service year, enter the workforce, take a year off, join the military,<br />
or are undecided<br />
• Ten graduates will be attending college at institutions that offer admission to fewer<br />
than 50% of their applicants, including Berea College, Denison University, Elon University,<br />
Emory University, United States Naval Academy, University of Virginia, Vanderbilt<br />
University, and Yale University<br />
• Organizations within the <strong>Mariemont</strong> High School community awarded 40 scholarships<br />
to graduates<br />
• The “Let us Never Forget” scholarship, in memory of Cpt. Tyler Swisher and provided<br />
by the “Yellow Ribbon Support Center,” was awarded to Agatha Howland and Evan<br />
Rosson.<br />
• Three memorial scholarships were added to those offered to our graduates: the Julia<br />
Donnelly Memorial, the David Deeters Memorial, and the John M. Lucas/Virmorgan L.<br />
Ziegler Scholarship<br />
• Forty-five seniors took one or more AP exams this spring<br />
• Nicholas “Cole” Miller earned an appointment to the United States Naval Academy<br />
• Riley Flickner plans to participate in the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS)
