vaJpayee Conferred with bharat ratna<br />
Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a veteran Parliamentarian<br />
and founder member of Bharatiya Janata Party, was conferred with<br />
Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian award. The ailing leader was<br />
honoured by President Pranab Mukherjee at his Krishna Menon Marg<br />
residence in Lutyens' Delhi. Vajpayee, who was Prime Minister from<br />
1998 to 2004, and has faded from public life due to age-related illness,<br />
is lauded as a statesman and is held in high esteem across the political<br />
spectrum. He has been credited with taking bold initiatives for forging<br />
good ties with Pakistan which included the historic bus journey to Lahore<br />
in 1999 when he signed the landmark Lahore Declaration with Prime<br />
Minister Nawaz Sharif. Since its inception 43 people have received the<br />
prestigious award including former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru,<br />
Lal Bhadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi besides singing<br />
legend Lata Mangeshkar and batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar.<br />

The world's only solar-powered ''zero-fuel'' aircraft ''Solar<br />
Impulse-2'' landed in Ahmedabad and then in Varanasi. Founded<br />
by Swiss pilots Andre Boschberg and Bertrand Piccard, the solarpowered<br />
aircraft began its journey on March 9 from Abu Dhabi. The<br />
Swiss-made aircraft is powered by more than 17,000 solar cells on<br />
its wings that recharge the plane's batteries, enabling it to fl y during<br />
the day or night. The single-seater plane fl ies ideally at around 25<br />
knots, or 45 kph (28 mph). The fl ight has attracted attention around<br />
the world from people who see solar power as the fuel of the future,<br />
providing a source of clean and renewable energy.<br />

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India received total<br />
28 applications by 27thMarch <strong>2015</strong>, the last date of receipt of application, in<br />
connection with the e-auction of 135 Private FM Radio channels in 69 existing<br />
cities of Phase II in the fi rst batch of Phase III. 28 applicants have cumulatively<br />
submitted Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of about Rs. 316.91crores. Mere<br />
receipt of applications by the Ministry does not confer the applicants any right<br />
or eligibility for participation in the upcoming auction. After scrutiny and subject<br />
to fulfi llment of requirements as prescribed in the Notice Inviting Applications<br />
(NIA) dated 2nd March, <strong>2015</strong>, a list of pre-qualifi ed bidders will be prepared.<br />
A two-year-old Indian girl has set a new national record<br />
in archery, according to the India Book of Records. Dolly<br />
Shivani Cherukuri from Vijaywada, in the southern state<br />
of Andhra Pradesh, became the youngest Indian to score<br />
more than 200 points over fi ve and seven-metre distances,<br />
according to Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury of the India Book<br />
of Records. Her achievement was witnessed by senior<br />
sports personalities and India Book of Records offi cials.<br />
The child prodigy comes from a family of archers and was<br />
groomed from birth to be an archery champion. Her brother,<br />
Cherukuri Lenin, was an Indian coach and international<br />
archer and her father, Mr Cherukuri Satyanarayana, runs<br />
an archery academy in Vijaywada.<br />
