isro gets gandhi peaCe prize for 2014<br />

The Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2014, has been awarded to Indian<br />

Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The Jury for the Prize met under<br />

the Chairmanship of the Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi. The other<br />

members of the Jury were Justice H.L Dattu, Chief Justice of India, Shri<br />

Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the single largest Opposition Party in the Lok<br />

Sabha, Shri. L.K. Advani, Member of Parliament (L.S) and Shri Gopalkrishna<br />

Gandhi. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), an organisation of<br />

Government of India, is engaged in making space technology a catalyst<br />

of development to bring about societal transformation. The Indian Space<br />

Research Organisation (ISRO)’s mission is to provide the nation with<br />

space based services and to develop the technologies to achieve the<br />

same. Through the years, ISRO has upheld its mission of bringing space<br />

to the service of the common man and in the service of the nation. In<br />

the process it has become one of the six largest space agencies of the<br />

world. ISRO contributes to the nation’s development through satellite<br />

based education, health care and connectivity to community activities for<br />

sustainable economic development.<br />

said that UGC has been constantly persuading<br />

the universities to introduce academic reforms<br />

like introduction of semester system, CBCS and<br />

grading system. “Other central universities are in<br />

different stages of implementation of CBCS," he<br />

added. Under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, central<br />

funds were released to the state governments<br />

and UT administrations, who decide the degree of<br />

devolution of funds to the local bodies, including<br />

the sector of elementary education.<br />

conference in Paris later this year,<br />

India and Egypt have decided to<br />

form a 'joint working group' for<br />

"cooperation in environment and<br />

climate change". Environment<br />

minister Prakash Javadekar<br />

attended the Fifteenth Session of<br />

African Ministerial Conference on<br />

Environment held from March 4<br />

to 6 in Cairo. The joint working<br />

group will discuss and fi nalize<br />

the areas of cooperation in the<br />

fi elds of climate change, urban<br />

waste management, hazardous waste management, environmental education<br />

and all other facets of environmental governance in the two countries.<br />

CoMplete Mid-Career training to avail<br />

proMotion: govt to ias offiCers<br />

All IAS officers have been asked by the Centre to complete the mandatory midcareer<br />

training, failing which they may lose promotions and other benefits.<br />

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has written to states and<br />

central government ministries to ensure that eligible IAS officers undergo<br />

the training. "I may also point out that mid-career training is a mandatory<br />

training programme launched with the objective of improving their next level<br />

competencies at specified stages of their careers," the DoPT letter said.<br />
