All anesthetic agents are liquid at room temperature and sea level atmospheric pressure (1 atm) What is vapor pressure? In a closed container liquid forms a vapor above itself Just like fog above a lake or vapor above a boiling pot These vapor molecules will bang into the walls of the container How much/hard these molecules bang into the walls is creating a pressure – vapor pressure Increasing the temperature inside the container will increase the speed these vapor molecules move, which in turn will increase how hard they hit the walls, which then increases the vapor pressure Vapor pressure is therefore temperature dependent VAPOR PRESSURE 4
