Stillstand ist Rückschritt – so ein viel zitiertes
Motto, das wir uns täglich im Estrel
zu Herzen nehmen. Aus diesem Grund sind
in den vergangenen drei Jahren über 10
Millionen Euro in die Neugestaltung der
Zimmer, der Restaurants, des Sommergartens,
des Sauna- und Fitnessbereiches und
in die Instandsetzung der Fassade geflossen.
Das Resultat kann sich sehen lassen und die
vielen positiven Rückmeldungen der Gäste
freuen uns sehr! Doch natürlich investieren
wir nicht nur in die Hardware, besonders
wichtig ist uns der Servicegedanke und damit
die Weiterbildung der Mitarbeiter. Unserer
Meinung nach sollte sich jeder Einzelne
als Gastgeber fühlen und ungefragt auf
die Wünsche der Gäste eingehen. Gerade in

If you don’t go forwards you go backwards
- this is a much-quoted phrase
that we take to heart every day at
the Estrel. This is why over the past
three years more than 10 million euros
have been invested in redesigning
the rooms, restaurants, summer
garden, sauna and gym area and in
maintaining the front of the building.
The results are clear to see and
we’re greatly pleased by the many
positive comments we’ve received
from our guests! However, we’re not
just investing in hardware; our commitment
to service and therefore to
the further training of our staff is

Convention Centre image campaign
have been created on the
theme of “inspiration and diversity
for your event” showing Estrel
staff as artists, magicians,
strongmen, clowns, jugglers and
ringmasters. The idea behind this
is that the Estrel’s 500-strong
staff work hand-in-hand just like
a large circus family. Each person
has his or her place, passionately
employing specialised expertise to
produce a positive overall result.

Seit 1992 fühlt die Fach-Illustrierte „Top hotel“ Hotelbetrieben
auf den Zahn. Die Servicechecks werden stets
anonym durchgeführt und genießen im internationalen
Hotelmanagement und bei Branchenexperten hohes Ansehen.
Standen bislang bei den monatlichen Inkognito-
Tests Häuser der Luxuskategorie im Fokus, wurden diese
seit 2010 auf das Business-Segment ausgedehnt. Für die
diesjährige Mai-Ausgabe nahmen die Tester das Estrel
Berlin unter die Lupe und attestierten dem Businesshotel
ein sensationelles „sehr gut“. In der Zusammenfassung
heißt es: „Dass das Estrel Berlin als größtes Hotel
Deutschlands in einem Businesshotel-Test ein »sehr gut«

NEW sAuNA ANd GYM AREA opENs IN ThE AuTuMN
The newly designed sauna and gym area at the
Estrel Berlin will provide rest and relaxation
from October. Following a construction phase
of around three months, an inviting wellness
area featuring a Finnish sauna, steam sauna,
massage showers, ice fountain and an elegant,
well-lit relaxation room was completed in an
area measuring 400 sq. m on the first floor
of wing 1 of the hotel. Natural materials and
warm earth tones emphasise the modern ambi-
erzielt, darf als außergewöhnliche Leistung gelten. Hier
zeigt sich, dass Masse nicht automatisch einen Verlust
an Klasse bedeuten muss. Vielmehr beweist das Estrel,
dass sich die kontinuierliche Investition in die Hardware
und die offensichtlich ebenso kontinuierliche wie intensive
Schulung der Mitarbeiter unbedingt bezahlt machen.“
Einige Bereiche erreichten in dem Test mehr als
90 Prozentpunkte; besonders lobenswert hervorgehoben
wurden die Abteilung „Housekeeping“ sowie die gastronomischen
Leistungen des Restaurants „Portofino“ und
des Frühstückservices. Die neu renovierten Hotelzimmer
rundeten den positiven Eindruck der Tester ab.
Für Entspannung und Erholung sorgt ab Oktober
der neu gestaltete Sauna- und Fitnessbereich des
Estrel Berlin. Nach einer knapp dreimonatigen Umbauphase
präsentiert sich nun in der ersten Etage
des Hotelflügel 1 auf 400 qm ein einladender Wellnessbereich
mit Finnischer Sauna, Dampfsauna, Erlebnisduschen,
Eisbrunnen sowie einem eleganten
und lichtdurchfluteten Ruheraum. Natürliche Materialien
sowie warme Erdtöne unterstreichen das
moderne Ambiente und strahlen eine angenehme
Wohlfühl-Atmosphäre aus. Hier kann man nach
einem anstrengenden Konferenztag bei einer Massage
relaxen oder sich nach einem Einkaufsmarathon
bei einer Ganzkörperbehandlung von Kopf
bis Fuß verwöhnen lassen. Der angrenzende Fitnessraum
lädt mit modernen Cardiogeräten – wie
Laufbändern, Crosstrainern und Sitzfahrrädern – zu
einem Workout und effektivem Training ein.

The industry magazine "Top hotel" has been scrutinising
hotels since 1992. The service checks are
always carried out anonymously and enjoy high
regard in the world of international hotel management
and among industry experts. While the
monthly incognito tests had been focussing on
luxury hotels until now, these were extended to
the business sector in 2010. For the May edition
this year, the testers went through the Estrel Berlin
with a fine-tooth comb, awarding the business
hotel a sensational “very good”. Here is a summary
of the result: “The fact that the Estrel Berlin
as the largest hotel in Germany has achieved

Als neuer Director of Sales ist seit Mai dieses Jahres
Jan Frederik Vanhamel in der Vertriebsabteilung
des Estrel Berlin für die Akquise und Gewinnung
von Kongressen und Großveranstaltungen
verantwortlich. Der 31-jährige Belgier, der ein
Hotel-Management-Studium an der Erasmushogeschool
in Brüssel absolviert hat, bringt jede
Menge an Praxiserfahrungen im MICE-Geschäft
mit: Er war vor der Tätigkeit im Estrel als Director
International Sales im InterContinental Berlin für
die Akquisition und Betreuung von internationalen
Kunden im MICE-Segment zuständig und bekleidete
davor eine ähnliche Position im belgischen
Hotel Le Château du Lac. „Es reizt mich, das MICE-
Geschäft um weitere hochkarätige Events auszubauen“,
sagt Vanhamel. „Insbesonders möchte ich
den internationalen Markt sowie das nationale
und internationale Verbandsgeschäft ausbauen“.
Gemeinsam mit ihm engagieren sich die Mitarbeiter
der Abteilung „Sales & Marketing“ für die
höchstmögliche Auslastung der Säulen „Convention“,
„Entertainment“ und „Hotel“ und sorgen für
eine intensive Kundenbetreuung.

As the new Director of Sales, Jan Frederik Vanhamel
has been responsible for the acquisition
and winning of conferences and large events in
the sales department at the Estrel Berlin since
May this year. The 31-year-old Belgian, who
completed his hotel management studies at the
Erasmus University College (Erasmushogeschool)
in Brussels, brings a huge amount of practical
experience in the MICE business with him: before
joining the Estrel, he was employed as the
Director of International Sales in the InterContinental
Berlin, where he was responsible for the
acquisition and support of international clients
in the MICE sector, and prior to that held a similar
position in the Belgian hotel Le Château du
Lac. “Expanding the MICE business with further
top-class events really appeals to me,” says Vanhamel.
“I would particularly like to develop the
international market as well as the national and
international association business”. The staff in
the Sales & Marketing department join him in
a commitment to achieving the highest possible
capacity utilisation for the areas "conventions",
"entertainment" and "hotel", and ensure intensive
customer support.

Im Mai dieses Jahres luden die Autoglas-Spezialisten der Carglass GmbH 1.650 Mitarbeiter ins Estrel ein. Für die Jahrestagung wurde in der
Convention Hall eine Fußball-Arena aufgebaut in der Carglass-Geschäftsführer Jean-Pierre Filippini und ZDF-Moderator Oliver Welke die
Mitarbeiter auf das Event einstimmten.
In May this year, auto glass specialist Carglass GmbH invited 1,650 members of staff to the Estrel. During their annual conference, a soccer
stadium was erected in the Convention Hall where Carglass Managing Director Jean-Pierre Filippini and ZDF presenter Oliver Welke got staff
in the mood for the event.

Bestes Live-Entertainment zu bieten, ist seit 14 Jahren der
Anspruch von „Stars in Concert“, der erfolgreichsten Show
Berlins. Seit der Premiere 1997 erlebten vier Millionen
Zuschauer Las-Vegas-Feeling im Estrel Berlin sowie bei
weltweiten Gastauftritten. Um den hohen Erwartungen
der Gäste stets gerecht zu werden, inszenieren Produzent
Bernhard Kurz und sein künstlerischer Direktor Paul
Langley immer neue Produktionen. Und sie machen dies
mit großem Erfolg: So waren alle Vorstellungen der Disco-
Show „A tribute to ABBA & Boney M.“, die im Juli erstmals
aufgeführt wurde, ausverkauft. Darüber hinaus sparten

Mal im Estrel statt: Am 10. Dezember werden dann
wieder die Besten der Besten im Convention Center
ausgezeichnet. Zur Preisverleihung unter dem Motto
„Olympia 2012 in London“ werden prominente

Olympics in London. First-class entertainment, an
international gala buffet with culinary delights

ThE hIT shoW “sTARs IN coNcERT” bEGINs ITs 15Th YEAR
Offering the best live entertainment has been the
aim of "Stars in Concert", Berlin’s most successful
show, for the past 14 years. Four million people
have experienced the Las Vegas feeling in the Estrel
Berlin and during global guest performances since
the show’s premiere in 1997. In order to always
meet the high expectations of the audience, producer
Bernhard Kurz and his Artistic Director Paul
Langley continuously stage new productions. And
they do this with great success: all performances
of the disco show “A tribute to ABBA & Boney
M.”, which was first performed in July, were sold
out. What’s more, the media didn’t hold back with
positive reviews following the world premiere of
“Shakespeare’s Musical Comedy” in mid-August. To
continue the success story of “Stars in Concert”,
Kurz spends the whole year searching for new
lookalikes. This year he found two promising new
talents with the help of the RTL2 show “My Name
Is”. The winners of the TV show, a Robbie Williams
and a Justin Bieber double, can look forward to
guest performances at “Stars in Concert” in autumn.

und serviert wird, kann sich mehr als sehen lassen

große Überraschung: Es gibt edle Küche in Neukölln,

Und damit der Übergang vom alten ins neue Jahr gut
gelingt, stehen im Estrel wieder zwei ganz besondere
Silvester-Events auf dem Programm: Die traditionelle
Silvester-Show-Gala sorgt mit Auszügen aus „Stars in
Concert“, einer Showband sowie einem aufwändigen
Buffet für einen schwungvollen Start in 2012. Und bei
der Silvester-Late-Night-Show kann man mit den größten
Stars des Musikbusiness bis in den ersten Morgen
des neuen Jahres feiern.

preparations must be made and Christmas
celebrations with work colleagues, business

cake buffet with Stollen and biscuits on Advent
Sundays – combined with a visit to the

New Year goes with a bang, the Estrel is once
again offering two very special New Year’s Eve
events: the traditional New Year’s Eve show
gala ensures 2012 gets off to a great start with
extracts from “Stars in Concert”, a show band
and an extensive buffet. And you can celebrate
with the biggest names in the music business
until the early hours of the New Year at the
New Year late night show.
