Continentals were forward to the judge Mr Mick Etherington of
eclipsed with a pen from MR&JE Davis with their 42kgs topping at
£118 or 281p/kg again to SA Swales, next was an excellent pen
from Hayley Baines with 2 excellent hoggs weighing 41kgs making
AUCTIONEER’S REPORT (Stephen Dennis):- A night of snow over
the pennines affected both vendors and buyers with absentees on
both sides of the ring. Recent sales talk suggested that trade had
eased since the January Sale and certainly buyers seemed more
concerned over the cost of feed, with chance of it going dearer
rather than less. However cattle still looked a good price with bulls
setting off at a good pace, Julie Bentham with a pen of 3 9 month old
Lim x stirks selling at £825 showing good deand for long term
feeders. In the stores Alan & Alastair Foster’s pen of 13mo Charolais
x Steers looked well sold at £920. Rollo Rowlands travelled for the
first time from Derbyshire with a run of 31 Continental x bullocks in
traditional store condition selling in pens of 5 & 6 to average just
short of £1100 a piece. Also from Derbyshire for the 1 st time was
David Gregory with 25 nicely farmed Lim x Herefords 9-12mo topping
at £960. Other notable sales inc. homebred bullocks from Brian
Carter, 14mo at £1080 and Willie & Frank Brennand with a dozen Lim
x Steers to average around the £1000 mark.
forward with the usual ringside of buyers in attendance. British Blue
Hiefer calves met a strong demand with plenty of interest from
buyers. Andrew Long, Ulverston had forward a good consignment of
Limousin & Charolais calves selling to a top of £350 going to Chris
Baxter. A mixed show of B+W’s resulting in a steadier trade top price
for the section was £122 from JR Pye, Stalmine. More B+W’s are
required for next week to fill new orders.
PRIME HOGGS
AUCTIONEER’S REPORT (Greg MacDougall):- A much larger show
was forward on the week with an increased ring of buyers. All classes
met a brisk trade resulting in an overall average of 155p/kg (+10p on
the week). Many more quality export hogs could have been sold as
