GOVERNOR’S MESSAGE
Greetings, Fellow Lions and Leos,
We of District 20-K1
would like to wish you joy
and peace of the season and
also to thank you for whatever
help was given during
our Thanksgiving Season.
This is the time to remember
our mission, “Together
We Serve the World as We Move to Grow”
in the communities around us and
throughout the world.
Another Lionistic year is quickly
moving along and it t has been a year of
new beginnings, changes and some sadness
as we mourn the loss of our Lion
members. Let us try to find some peace as
we remember their service. We extend
our heartfelt condolences to those families.
Lions, I am pleased to report that we
have met all the requirements for LCIF’s
standard grant of $75,000.00 for a District
20-K1 project to equip the Lions Eye
Bank of Long Island which also serves
Brooklyn and Queens.
We are also working on the formation
of new clubs. I am now awaiting the
Charter for two new clubs. The Brooklyn
Transition Lions Club is being sponsored
by Kings County Lions Club and
Brookville Lions Club is being sponsored
by Laurelton Lions Club. Congratulations
to the new clubs and their members and to
those who have worked hard towards
their formation. Thank you! “Thank You

Flatlands Lions Join in the 1st Annual T.E.A.L. Walk for Ovarian Cancer: the
event raised over $50,000 for Ovarian cancer research and education. For info
about Ovarian Cancer go to www.tealwalk.org.

Bedford Stuyvesant Lions: PDG Lion Douglas
Alexander is a transporter for the Lions Eye Bank.
Bedford Stuyvesant Lions: “We Serve” - members
volunteered to collect, pack and distribute hundreds of
boxes of food to needy families around Thanksgiving.
Thank You VCB: pictured is Kevaughn Merrill at a
K1 meeting to thank the Lions for supporting VCB.
VCB provides training and life skills for the viually disabled
that will help me when I grow up.
Crown Heights Lions: celebrates 33 years of community
service. The event was well attended and would
like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their
support.
Central Brooklyn Lions: started a project,
“Education in a Box”, in memory of Lion Valerie R.
Gayle. Pictured are members of the club as they prepare
to package the books, pencils, etc. to benefit the
economically disadvantaged grade school children.
Queens Las Americas Lions: recently partnered with
the US Census 2010, to educate the community about
the importance of responding appropriately to next
year’s census. They distributed flyers and t-shirts, and
give information in Spanish and English.
K1 Partnership with American Cancer Society:
American Cancer Society announced that K1 has
launched a three year partnership with a commiment to
raise $30,000 over that period and establish a Lions
Club dedicated to that purpose. The goal of this partnership
is to provide assistance and support for cancer
victims. Statistics show that only about 30% of cancer
patients will succumb to this disease, so the focus must
be on disease prevention, early detection and research
to find a cure.
Flatlands and Mill Basin Bergen Beach Lions “Tee Off” to Help Young Burn
Victims at the Annual Golf Classic: raised $9,000 for Arthur C. Luf Children ‘s
Burn Camp. This year it will be held July 15th. Contact: pvcuca@aol.com.
