The Long Lake Lions Club
served BBQ lunch at the Long
Lake Regatta in July, the Heart of
the Adirondacks Craft Fair in
August, and the Long Boat Races
in September.
Faced with 33 degree weather
and fortified with doughnuts, hot
chocolate and coffee, District 20W
Leos from Carthage, Heuvelton
and Massena met at the Massena
Country Club for a 3 mile walk to
raise money for Juvenile Diabetes.
The group was joined by members
from their sponsoring Lions Clubs,
DG Karon and her husband, Ed,
Leo Chair Nancy LaFaver and Leo
parents. The total amount raised
was over $1,000! Great job everyone!
In an effort to encourage people
to vote, the Massena Lions
Club held their Election Day Breakfast and served approximately 175
meals. The Massena Lions also held their White Cane Day, undeterred by
wind and rain. They also continued their vision screening, and to date,
they’ve screened over 500 children. All schools have expressed overwhelming
gratitude for this service.
The Malone Lions Club held a combined 60th Anniversary Party
along with a zone meeting. They also cleaned up area around Lions
Bandstand in the park and held an Ecumenical Community Thanksgiving
Dinner.
The Ogdensburg Lions Club sponsored the Peace poster contest and
it was a huge success, with over 250 students participating. The art teachers
did a superb job with the students. Lion Carolyn McPherson headed
the project again this year, and as usual did a great job. The top 24 posters
were on display last week at the community center. Cookies punch and
coffee were served to those that attended. Students, parents, and
Grandparents attended the event.
The official World Sight Day
fell on Oct. 8 this year (it always
falls on the second Thursday in
October), but Potsdam Lions
Club’s commitment to sight projects
continued throughout the
month with White Cane Sale on
Oct. 2-3 and 9-10, and vision
screening on 9/30 and 10/1. This
The Quad-Town Lions Club held a “Lions Cub” picnic in August
for approximately 90 children. They enjoyed a hayride to the local school
and then a picnic and later played on the playground. Lion members
helped the local Chamber with Summer Festival Activities. Lion members
also participated in the Summer Festival parade. In September, the
Club sold food at a concession stand and raffle during an “Old Car Show”
to raise money for the local Christmas Fund. The Quad Town Lions club
also held an Eye Screening clinic and screened 32 Head Start children.
You may remember earlier this year, many Lions Clubs in our area
sent some funds to aid the cause of a young blind girl in the Saranac Lake
area. The Saranac Lake Lions were trying to help the family & appealed
for Lions Clubs assistance. They were having a corned beef & cabbage
dinner around St. Patrick’s Day to help raise funds for a trip to China so
that the young lady could receive stem cell treatment for her health related
problems. Recently, an update was received from King Lion David
Martin with the Saranac Lake Lions. “London Ruby Call” is about to
leave, later this week, for her trip to China for treatment. Her family will
be traveling with her. The family has provided the address for an internet
blog so that we may get updates. The address is:
The Lisbon, Heuvelton,
