FOR YEARS, LAW SCHOOL PROFESSIONALS AND LEGAL SCHOLARS HAVE DISCUSSED THE NEED TO INTEGRATE A LAW SCHOOL CURRICULUM WITH HANDS-ON, PRACTICAL LEARNING IN AN EFFORT TO ENSURE THAT GRADUATES ARE NOT MERELY EDUCATED IN THE LAW, BUT ARE ACTUALLY PREPARED TO PRACTICE. TOURO LAW’S COLLABORATIVE COURT PROGRAM, INCLUDING THE FIRST YEAR COURT OBSERVATION PROGRAM, BRIDGES THAT GAP. Designed after the medical school model, this unique program integrates the law school classroom with courtroom practice, offering students the opportunity to learn from accomplished professors while they work directly with members of the Bar and the Bench in courtroom settings. About Michael Michael became a research assistant for Criminal Law Professor Richard Klein after his first semester. Describing Professor Klein as a mentor who stood behind him every step of the way, Michael now counts him among his valued friends. “Because of my Touro Law experience, I’ve always been comfortable in the courtroom,” explains Michael, who had already spent countless hours in the courtroom before his 2011 graduation. He served as an intern to a New York Supreme Court Justice, as well as an extern and intern in the Queens County District Attorney’s Office. Endorsed by judges, practitioners, faculty, and prospective employers, this innovative curriculum gives Touro Law students the all-important edge they will need to succeed in the legal profession. First Day in the Classroom, First Day in Courtroom. At Touro Law, you will be introduced to the courtroom from your very first days. You will visit the courthouses to observe proceedings and meet with judges, attorneys and other court personnel, followed by faculty-led classroom discussions of the court experiences.
