Introduction 


Providing up-to-date and clear information on employment, learning and other specialist 

services is an important part of helping people back into employment. 

The Joined Up For Jobs Services Directory provides a valuable resource to keep 

professionals up to date on changes in local services. 

Organised into seven sections: Employment, Training for Jobs, Learning, Volunteering, 

Health, Housing and Money Matters, the directory aim to be easy to use. 

The website www.joinedupforjobs.org.uk that complements this guide provides 

additional information on the services listed, as well as details of staff networking and 

learning events. I would encourage you to use it.

Employment Organisations 

There are a range of services available to help people move towards employment and 

sustain this in the longer term. The first port of call for any general employability 

support, like help with CVs and interview skills, will be the local Employability Hubs, 

which can be accessed via the Get on Gate Way. 

For more specialised employability support, for instance for people with a health 

condition or some other barrier, the specialist employability support services listed here 

may be of assistance. 

Also included in this section are details of support and advice for people interested in 

starting up or developing their own business as well as dedicated resources for people 

facing redundancy. 

There are also organisation listed on Training for Jobs and Volunteering, which may 

have details of other services that can help improve a person's employability. 

Joined Up For Jobs (JU4J) is the Jobs Strategy for Edinburgh. it is led by a partnership 

of key agencies: City of Edinburgh Council, Capital City Partnership, Skills Development 

Scotland, Jobcentre Plus, NHS Lothian, Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce and 

Edinburgh College. 

By sharing ideas, information and resources, the Partnership aims to complement 

nationally funded programmes in supporting Edinburgh residents into sustainable work. 

To achieve this, the Partnership works closely with the JU4J Forum which brings 

together all the organisations delivering employability services in Edinburgh.

Training for Jobs 

Often, if people are out of work, especially young people and school leavers, or those 

who have or have had other difficulties, they find that have lack the skills and practical 

experience needed to progress into employment. 

Many organisations provide training programmes which offer work experience 

placements and structured training programmes, some leading to recognised 

qualifications. Many of these organisations offer sector specific training, for instance, in 

construction, retail, childcare, catering and others. Many other organisations offer 

support for those of a specific age group or with specific barriers. 

Most of these services have strict criteria for entry and many of them will want to 

arrange an information meeting with prospective clients prior to accepting someone 

onto a course or programme. If you are considering referring someone onto an 

organisation that can provide training for jobs, it's a good idea to phone the organisation 

first and have a chat with them about the needs, abilities goals of the person you are 

thinking about referring on.

Cyrenians Market Led Training offers training courses that equip people with the skills to move into work. 

We currently offer training courses in Care, Retail, Hospitality and Construction. All courses are followed

employers to ensure that our courses train people to work in sectors where there is a need for staff, and 

that they give participants the skills, attitude, experience and motivation that employers need. We also 

run a 2 day course called ‘Time to Change?’ for people who either wish to move into work or are already in work looking to
